Three ancient trees in Vinh Thanh and An Hoa communes are the first ancient trees in Chau Thanh district (An Giang province) to be recognized as Vietnamese Heritage Trees by the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment in 2024.
The large banyan tree is an ancient tree that many people cannot hug around in Vinh Thanh commune, Chau Thanh district, An Giang province.
In addition to the ancient banyan tree in Dong Binh Nhat hamlet, Vinh Thanh commune also owns another Vietnamese Heritage Tree. That is the oil tree in Phu Nhuan communal house (Binh Phu 1 hamlet) - this is the communal house ranked as a provincial-level architectural and artistic relic by the People's Committee of An Giang province in 2004.
Despite many times of restoration and repair, it still retains the value of a majestic ancient communal house, a typical architectural work of the Nguyen feudal period, bearing the mark of the land opening and reclamation period. It is one of the historical and cultural relics with architectural and artistic value, closely associated with the spiritual life of many generations of people born and raised here.
The tung tree in Phu Nhuan communal house is not only closely associated with the lives of the people, but also has something strange and difficult to explain. Although the locality suffered many "rains of bombs and bullets" during the war, the tung tree is still intact and green.
Located in front of the gate of Phu Nhuan communal house, the majestic tung tree shows its shade to the admiration of the people and tourists visiting this relic site. The tung tree at Phu Nhuan communal house is about 150 years old, 40m high, the circumference of the tree trunk is 4.5m above the ground 1.3m, and the diameter is 2.25m.
Mr. Nguyen Van Luong (Head of the Phu Nhuan Communal House Worship Committee) said: “The cajuput tree is a historical witness of the ancient village. The tree lives long, has feng shui significance, symbolizes longevity, brings peace and longevity, always brings luck to everyone, and has become an extremely valuable symbol and “treasure” for people through many generations.
“The ancient Dipterocarpus cypress tree at Phu Nhuan communal house has great cultural, historical and scientific value, and is always associated with spiritual legends and the development of the locality through the ages. Therefore, the recognition of the Dipterocarpus cypress tree as a Vietnamese Heritage Tree is a joy and pride for local officials and people,” said Mr. Nguyen Van Luong.

At Nam An Pagoda (An Phu Hamlet, An Hoa Commune, Chau Thanh District, An Giang Province), the ancient pagoda was built in the 19th century, following the traditional architecture of Buddhism.
The temple is located in a peaceful and green space, giving people a sense of purity and sacredness.
In the temple grounds, there are many shady trees, such as: Dầu rái, sao... Among them, there is a Dầu rái tree over 100 years old, most notable for its outstanding height.
According to local elders, the tung tree at Nam An pagoda is over 100 years old, this ancient tree was planted at the same time as the completion of Nam An pagoda.
Because it is located in the temple grounds, the tung tree is well cared for and has not been affected, so it has grown well until now.
The cajeput tree is 40m high, 3.3m in circumference, and 1.65m in diameter. The tree does not have many branches, just a trunk running straight up to the sky and has more than a dozen strong “arms” reaching out more than 10m. In May 2024, the cajeput tree in the Nam An pagoda grounds was recognized as a Vietnam Heritage Tree.
The pagoda has carried out the conservation of the tung tree, lining it with bricks, so that this place, in addition to being a place to hold events, is also a tourist attraction for visitors from near and far.
