I didn't know where to hide my face when I heard my husband asking his father-in-law to pay 90,000 VND.

(Dan Tri) - It would have been better if my parents had paid for it themselves. But he took the initiative to "remind me of the debt" in front of the whole family. Obviously, he absolutely should not have been so honest, especially with his wife's parents.

When we first fell in love, I knew my husband was fair in everything, especially money matters. After we got married, I realized that not only my husband, but his whole family was like that.

If my brother-in-law asked me to borrow 20,000 VND, he would pay. If my mother-in-law asked me to buy some vegetables, she would also pay. When I first became a daughter-in-law, I felt that it was unnecessary to do that to my brothers and sisters and children in the family, so I refused to accept the money back. Over time, I understood that this was the way of life of my husband's family, and I no longer questioned or felt embarrassed.

Compared to my husband's family, my family is completely different. For example, if parents ask their children to buy something, or children ask their parents to buy something, they will often give money, sometimes they don't care.

The same goes for my siblings, when they buy something worth tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of dong, they wave their hands and refuse to take it even if they pay. Because of this difference, my husband made me feel so ashamed that I didn't know where to hide my face.

My husband's act of demanding debt from his parents-in-law made me disappointed and ashamed (Illustration: TD).

The story is that recently, my whole family went to my cousin's hometown to attend his wedding. When we got home, the light in the bathroom suddenly burned out. At that time, because my mother was not home and my father did not have any money, he asked my husband to go to the hardware store at the beginning of the village to buy him a new light bulb.

That night, during the farewell dinner before my family returned to the city early the next morning, in front of my wife's parents and my sister and her husband, my husband said: "Just now, I went to buy a light bulb to replace the light in the bathroom for 90,000 VND, Dad."

Hearing that, my mother immediately stood up to get money and gave my husband a 100,000 VND note. He took it and gave her the change, even though my mother tried to wave her hand and said it was not necessary.

I was really embarrassed by my husband's actions. After dinner, I pulled him behind the house, unable to hide my disappointment: "Are you the son-in-law of my grandparents? You even asked for money to buy a light bulb for them. You really make me want to "hide" in shame."

My husband seemed surprised by my attitude. He thought that his father-in-law asked him to buy it for him and said he would send the money back. The amount was not large, but if you borrow it, you have to pay it back. He could give them a few million, but what happens is what happens, borrowing is borrowing, giving is giving.

No matter what he said, what he did made me feel very ashamed. It would have been better if my parents had paid for it themselves. But he even took the initiative to "remind me of the debt" in front of the whole family. It was obvious that he absolutely should not have been so honest, especially with his wife's parents.

I told my sister that everyone in my family is fair, even with family members, and that I am not stingy or calculating every penny with my wife's family. After hearing that, my sister pouted: "Is it so fair that a son-in-law can't even buy his parents-in-law a light bulb?"

If my husband keeps behaving like this, will he gradually lose my family's affection for him?
