The Department of Transport of Quang Tri province said it has just completed the review and inspection of weak bridges, vulnerable locations, underground and overflow areas throughout the area.
Accordingly, the Department of Transport has counted 87 weak bridges on roads managed by districts and towns; 17 weak bridges on national highways and provincial roads, including 4 bridges on national highways and 13 bridges on provincial roads. Gio Linh (24 bridges) and Vinh Linh (30 bridges) districts have the largest number of weak bridges.

These bridges are located on inter-commune and inter-district roads. A series of new bridges must be built, in priority groups 1 and 2. Due to weak bridges and load limits, heavy vehicles must take detours, increasing costs and affecting socio-economic development.
For weak bridges on the locally managed routes, the Department of Transport recommends that the Provincial People's Committee direct the People's Committees of districts, towns and cities to strengthen regular and periodic maintenance inspections to promptly detect unusual signs and promptly repair minor damage to maintain the ability to operate in the current state.
In the long term, localities are required to review, evaluate, propose priority levels, and report to the Provincial People's Committee for consideration of supplementing medium-term public investment capital for the 2026-2030 period and other legal capital sources to invest in the construction of new replacement bridges.
For weak bridges on national highways, the Department of Transport has directed units to review and report to the Vietnam Road Administration for inspection to have a basis for inclusion in the repair, reinforcement or renovation and upgrading plan to ensure the safety of bridge structures and synchronous exploitation.
Of the 13 bridges on provincial roads, 3 are under construction or undergoing construction procedures. For the remaining 10 bridges, the Department of Transport continues to direct the strengthening of regular and periodic maintenance inspections to promptly detect signs of abnormalities and repair them promptly.
At the same time, it is recommended that the Provincial People's Committee allow the inspection of 3 weak bridges on provincial roads from local road traffic career funds in 2025 or road maintenance in 2025 to have a plan to strengthen, repair or renovate and upgrade to ensure the safety of bridge structures.
In the long term, the department proposed that the Provincial People's Committee consider adding capital to invest in building new bridges to replace weak bridges on provincial roads.
