My hometown people, whenever mentioning their origins, in addition to the name on the administrative map, often proudly chant: The land of Hong mountain - La river. That is a way of speaking "inclusively", representing the convergence and accumulation of cultural values from other mountains and rivers in nearly 6,000 km2 of Ha Tinh.
Although not as high and wide as many mountains and rivers in other rural areas, through many changes in geology as well as life, Hong Mountain and La River have gathered values from the surrounding streams to deposit many cultural layers. From there, creating a cultural symbol of Ha Tinh, enriching the poor countryside with unique, unchanging values that few places have.

Not only that, but all the countrysides of Ha Tinh, from the mountains to the midlands, down to the plains and the sea, have absorbed the quintessence of that unique cultural source, creating traditions that are both unique and blended into the common source of Ha Tinh homeland. And, one of the precious traditions that creates the brand of Ha Tinh is the tradition of studiousness.
Ha Tinh is a poor land, the soil and climate are not favored by nature. Although the terrain and climate are not favorable for agricultural production, they create the character and temperament of the people of Ha Tinh with characteristics such as: brave, courageous, upright, full of will and especially studious.

From the dawn of time to the feudal period, through the wars of national defense until now, generations of Ha Tinh people have always determined to build their homeland through the path of education and mandarin examinations. From a studious person, they created studious families, created mandarin villages, contributing to the historical periods of the country with famous people and talented people in many fields.
On the mountain ranges, the “satellite” rivers of Hong Mountain - La River such as: Thien Nhan, Truong Son, Tra Son, Hoanh Son, Tung Linh, Ngan Pho, Ngan Sau, Lam River… have formed many sacred areas. There are prestigious families from generation to generation that any Ha Tinh resident is proud of every time they mention them such as: Nguyen Khac, Dinh Nho (Huong Son); Phan Tung Mai (Duc Tho); Nguyen Huy (Can Loc); Phan Huy (Loc Ha); Nguyen family (Tien Dien, Nghi Xuan)…

These families have contributed to the country many talented people in various fields such as: Nguyen Cong Tru, Bui Cam Ho, who were talented in governing the country; Le Huu Trac - a great physician; Su Hy Nhan, Nguyen Nghiem, Phan Huy Ich, who were proficient in history; Dang Dung, Phan Dinh Phung, who sacrificed themselves to save the country; Nguyen Huy Oanh, Bui Duong Lich - excellent teachers and cultural researchers; Great poet Nguyen Du - a world cultural celebrity...
Or the shining names in the fields of politics, science, and art in the 20th century such as: Tran Phu, Ha Huy Tap, Hoang Xuan Han, Le Van Thiem, Nguyen Khac Vien, Xuan Dieu, Huy Can, Nguyen Dong Chi, Vo Liem Son, Nguyen Phan Chanh...
Among them, the Nguyen Huy family in Truong Luu is recorded in history books by the contributions of three fathers and sons: the third-ranked Nguyen Huy Oanh, the famous scholar Nguyen Huy Tu, and the poet Nguyen Huy Ho. The talented people of this family have recorded their names in the history of their homeland and country with their great contributions to the country's education in the 18th century with "Truong Luu school" and "Phuc Giang library" with thousands of wooden books that have now become world cultural heritages. The old Truong Luu village - the hometown of these famous people - has also become a unique place in Vietnam with three heritages recognized by UNESCO.
Representative of the Vietnamese delegation received the certificate of UNESCO's Memory of the World Asia-Pacific Documentary Heritage for the Han Nom Documents of Truong Luu Village (November 2022).
The tradition of studiousness of Ha Tinh people is the crystallization of beautiful traditions in the culture of Ha Tinh people for generations. Following in the footsteps of their ancestors, Ha Tinh people today have been striving to study and contribute in many fields. From 1945 to now, nearly 750 children of Ha Tinh have been awarded the titles of professor and associate professor, have many scientific works, and have made great contributions to the achievements of the country and the world.
In particular, during the period of strong integration, Ha Tinh's students boldly "brought the bell to strike foreign lands" and returned with glorious achievements such as: Trinh Kim Chi - Gold medal of Southeast Asian Math Olympiad in 1998; Le Nam Truong - Silver medal of International Math Olympiad in 2006; Vo Anh Duc - Gold medal of International Math Olympiad in 2013; Nguyen Thi Viet Ha - Bronze medal of International Math Olympiad in 2015; Phan Nhat Duy - Gold medal of International Math Olympiad in 2017; Nguyen Dinh Dai - Silver medal of Asian Informatics Olympiad in 2017; Phan Xuan Hanh - Gold medal of International Chemistry Olympiad in 2022. These examples in the new era have created a positive source of energy for the land of learning Ha Tinh. After each exam, Ha Tinh people are excited and proud of new achievements and new aspirations.

As the late poet Xuan Hoai once concluded: “High mountains give us a standing posture, long rivers give us steps”, the sources of our homeland have permeated the spiritual energy of the mountains and rivers so that generations after generations, our descendants can be nurtured, nurtured, and developed. In the new era with many great doors opened, we believe that generations of Ha Tinh people will continue to strive on their journey to reach out, to make the source of our homeland’s mountains and rivers shine, and to constantly contribute to building the country.
