At the ceremony, President Vo Van Thuong kindly visited and presented gifts to Vietnamese heroic mothers, war veterans... and awarded the Ho Chi Minh Medal to the Party Committee, government and people of Long An province.
Comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia, Head of the Central Propaganda Department, spoke at the ceremony. |
Speaking at the ceremony, comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia, Head of the Central Propaganda Department, emphasized that the victory in the Hiep Hoa battle had great significance, had a great impact, shook the spirit of enemy soldiers in the outposts and strategic hamlets across a large area, and was the beginning of the climax of destroying strategic hamlets by the army and people of Long An.
Since then, after 5 months of attacks using various forms of struggle: military, political and soldier agitation, we have destroyed, forced the retreat, forced the surrender and disintegrated hundreds of large and small enemy posts, destroyed a main enemy battalion, destroyed most of the strategic hamlets in the province, and completely bankrupted the enemy's strategic hamlet policy in one of their most important areas, Long An.
The significance of the victory also marked a remarkable step forward in the maturity of the Long An Party Committee in leading the struggle and building the movement of the entire people to fight the enemy, especially of the Long An armed forces. The victory in the Hiep Hoa battle promoted the revolutionary movement in the South at that time, contributing to the bankruptcy of the US's "special war" strategy and their plot to quickly pacify the South.
The 60th anniversary of the victory of Hiep Hoa battle and receiving the Ho Chi Minh Medal is an occasion to remember the merits, career and sacrifice of heroes - martyrs, of the army and people of Long An with rich revolutionary tradition, continuing to promote the tradition of "Loyalty, steadfastness, the whole people fight the enemy".
He emphasized that our responsibility today and for future generations is to continue to promote the revolutionary tradition, learn from shining examples of patriotism, be creative in the face of difficult situations, strive to successfully carry out the renovation process, promote industrialization and modernization, build a rich and beautiful homeland of Long An, and contribute with the people of the whole country to successfully realize the goal of successfully building and firmly defending the socialist Fatherland of Vietnam.

With the glorious tradition and efforts of the entire Party and people, he believes that Long An province will excellently complete the assigned political tasks, continue to develop, and be more worthy of the sacrifices of previous generations, worthy of the trust of the Party, State and people.
