New Road
After many years of working with the High School for the Gifted - VNU-HCM, Dr. of Mathematics Tran Nam Dung is currently working as a consultant for the Talented Mathematics - STEM Program (AIMS), an integrated program of Advanced Mathematics and STEM at CLC Albert Einstein Bilingual School. This will be a new and exciting journey with many differences for Dr. of Mathematics Tran Nam Dung as he turns to develop Mathematics and STEM in a private environment.
According to Dr. Tran Nam Dung, the Math Talent - STEM (AIMS) Program at Albert Einstein School will have two main goals. First, to build an in-depth learning path from grade 6 to create a solid foundation for the future development of students, teachers and all components of this program. The second goal is to form a STEAM ecosystem. The STEAM educational spirit is implemented in all teaching and learning activities in all subjects to help students develop their thinking, nurture independence, initiative, creativity and modern skills through (1) encouraging students to come up with ideas, (2) guiding students to implement ideas and (3) creating conditions for students to implement ideas. From there, orienting their careers and becoming experts in their favorite fields in the future.
"I think developing the Talented Math - STEM (AIMS) program at a private school has many differences but also many similarities to public schools. There are advantages and challenges everywhere. But I am a person who likes challenges. Building a program is difficult, but implementing it will be even more difficult. I will have to stay close to teachers and students to evaluate, adjust, and discuss to find the most effective way. This is similar to how I struggled with the math movement when I first started my career," Dr. Tran Nam Dung shared.
A solid foundation for the future
According to Dr. Tran Nam Dung, in addition to the current curriculum at Albert Einstein School, students attending AIMS will have 3 advanced Math lessons taught in English (by Vietnamese teachers) and 3 STEM lessons (taught in Vietnamese) each week, along with 14 English lessons following the Oxford curriculum. The Math curriculum will apply the curriculum of Phillips Exeter Academy (PEA) with the permission of PEA, one of the most prestigious schools in the United States. This is the school where former US President Franklin Pierce and Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg studied, as well as 19 state governors, 5 US senators, 5 Olympic athletes, and 2 Nobel laureates.
The STEM curriculum designed by GaraSTEM is consistent and has continuity between grades. The criteria for designing the program are to help students integrate and adapt to the development of digital society, applying information and communication technology through basic understanding of computer systems, some algorithm design techniques, data organization and programming; further consolidate and develop students' problem-solving thinking, the ability to generate ideas and transfer tasks to computers.
More importantly, the AIMS program with an intensive roadmap from grade 6 helps students form and develop sharp thinking ability, self-study ability and sensitivity to leading new technologies along with a solid English foundation to confidently participate in AP, SAT exams and Math - STEM competitions domestically and internationally. From there, students can easily enter prestigious universities with high scholarships.
