Since 2016, the Week of Italian Cuisine is an annual initiative involving the entire network of Italian diplomatic missions to promote the culinary culture that is considered the core of the Mediterranean diet, central to the Italian identity and lifestyle.
With the theme "Enjoy Italian Cuisine: Sublime Taste with Healthy Ingredients", this year's Gastronomy Week aims to explore the connection between Italian products and friendliness, hospitality and healthy eating.
Speaking at the ceremony, Italian Ambassador to Vietnam Marco della Seta said that, like Vietnam, Italians are proud of their cuisine. Everyone knows pizza, pasta, gelato or tiramisu. These dishes have become familiar names everywhere in the world, in Vietnam, and appear in many different languages.
“But with the Week of Italian Cuisine, we want to go further. We want to show you the other side of our cuisine, explain to you its characteristics, its origins and why it is so special. Besides, Italy has also proposed to nominate its cuisine as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
And that is why the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been implementing the idea of Italian Food Week since 2016, held at the same time, everywhere in the world. In 7 years (this is the 8th time), we have organized more than 9,500 events in 100 countries. This year's Italian Food Week has the theme of Health. I hope you can eat something both healthy and delicious," Ambassador Marco della Seta emphasized.
Also during this event, a number of activities will take place in Hanoi to promote the diversity of Italian culinary culture such as: Workshop and fermented food experience event with the theme "Decoding the never-before-mentioned effects of fermented foods in daily life?" organized with the cooperation of Hanoi University of Science, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry, Hanoi Slow Food Community, University of Naples Federico II and Parma Ham Association; Exhibition "Taste! Italians and cuisine 1970-2050" including works of art depicting the development of Italian eating habits in the past, present and future; Exhibition "Taste of Italy"; Casa Italia wine festival...
In addition, on this occasion, a selected chain of Italian restaurants in Hanoi will also prepare a special menu based on the theme of the Week.
