At the meeting, Deputy Governor of Udon Thani Province Nathapol Withee introduced the potential and economy of the province, which is the center of road and air traffic connection of the Northeast region of Thailand with Laos, Cambodia, China and Vietnam; said that Udon Thani is one of the provinces with the largest number of Thai-Vietnamese people in Thailand and affirmed that Thai-Vietnamese people here have contributed significantly to the development of the province. In addition, Udon Thani is also a province that has attracted many Vietnamese students to study and research at the province's educational institutions.
Deputy Governor Nathapol Withee said that Udon Thani has established sister provinces with a number of Vietnamese provinces to promote economic and investment cooperation. Currently, Udon Thani is focusing on promoting cooperation with Thai Nguyen province and is proposing to the central ministries and branches of Thailand to resolve a number of outstanding issues so that a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) can be signed to elevate the relationship between the two provinces to the level of sister provinces.
At the meeting, Ambassador Pham Viet Hung emphasized the friendly relationship between Vietnam and Thailand; affirmed that Vietnam always considers Thailand as one of the leading partners in ASEAN; thanked the provincial government for creating favorable conditions to support and help Thai people of Vietnamese origin here to do business and live, especially for supporting, helping and creating favorable conditions for the Thai community of Vietnamese origin here to successfully build the first Vietnam Town in the world in 2023; said that the Thai community of Vietnamese origin is an important bridge in the friendly relationship between the two countries.

Ambassador Pham Viet Hung said that the potential for cooperation between Vietnam and Thailand is huge and expressed his hope that the Udon Thani provincial government would pay attention to and promote cooperation with Vietnamese localities. The Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand is ready to support and help remove difficulties and create a bridge for Udon Thani to soon sign cooperation agreements with Vietnamese localities, including Thai Nguyen province.
Ambassador Pham Viet Hung emphasized the special significance of 2026 in Vietnam-Thailand relations, when the two countries will celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations. This will be an important occasion for Vietnam and Thailand in general, and localities of the two countries in particular, to coordinate to organize meaningful activities to celebrate this important milestone.

On the same afternoon, Ambassador Pham Viet Hung visited and worked with leaders of Rajabhat University Udon Thani and visited the Vietnam Studies Center on campus.
At the meeting, Ambassador Pham Viet Hung congratulated the school on its great achievements after more than 100 years of establishment and development, believing that the school will increasingly become a prestigious and strong academic institution, contributing to training new intellectuals to serve the development of Thailand.
The Ambassador expressed his thanks and appreciation to Udon Thani University for establishing and putting into operation the Vietnam Studies Center; hoping that the university will coordinate with the Vietnamese Consulate General in Khon Kaen so that the Vietnam Studies Center will have more and more diverse activities, bringing knowledge about Vietnam to students, people and researchers who want to learn about Vietnam.
On this occasion, Ambassador Pham Viet Hung presented two books “Building and developing a comprehensive and modern Vietnamese foreign policy and diplomacy imbued with Vietnamese bamboo identity” and “Some theoretical and practical issues on socialism and the path to socialism in Vietnam” by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to Rajabhat University Udon Thani.

On behalf of the Board of Directors and lecturers of Rajabhat University Udon Thani, Vice President, Dr. Viboon Pensuk gave an overview of the history and development of the university. Rajabhat University Udon Thani has had extensive academic, research and cultural cooperation with many higher education institutions and government organizations of Vietnam.
In 2024, Rajabhat Udon Thani University officially cooperated with 14 educational institutions in Vietnam. Based on that good cooperation, the university will continue to expand cooperation with four more universities in Vietnam, including Ho Chi Minh City University of Social Sciences and Humanities; Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics; Can Tho University; Vo Truong Toan University, Hau Giang Province. Rajabhat Udon Thani University has 212 Vietnamese students studying in many different majors.
After the meeting, Ambassador Pham Viet Hung and the Embassy delegation visited the Vietnam Studies Center. During the conversation and exchange with teachers and students there, Ambassador Pham Viet Hung highly appreciated the teaching and learning spirit of teachers and students at the center; affirmed that he would provide the most support and assistance for the center's activities in the coming time.

Talking to a reporter from Nhan Dan Newspaper based in Thailand, Ms. Duong Bich Ngoc, a member of the Center's management board, said that the Center for Vietnamese Studies has had a number of activities to help students better understand Vietnam, such as a program about Lunar New Year for Thai students studying Vietnamese at the Center and Vietnamese students studying in Thailand.
In addition, the Center has co-organized a language and culture camp program in Nong Khai province for high school students across Thailand.
One of the goals of the Vietnam Studies Center is to periodically organize basic and advanced Vietnamese language courses and to research issues of Vietnamese language and culture.

Student Phiraphat Thongkaem, a student of the latest basic Vietnamese course at the Vietnam Studies Center, told Nhan Dan Newspaper's correspondent in Thailand that he really likes learning about the country and people of Vietnam, so he joined the Vietnamese course to better understand Vietnamese culture.

The Center for Vietnamese Studies, under Rajabhat University Udon Thani, was established in November 2023 with the aim of coordinating research and in-depth training on Vietnam, providing multi-dimensional data and knowledge about Vietnam, and contributing to promoting understanding and good cooperation between Vietnam and Thailand.
