Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang visits the Vietnamese community in Cambodia

(NLDO) - Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang suggested that Cambodian leaders continue to pay attention and cooperate to resolve a number of issues related to people of Vietnamese origin.


On December 26 and 27, a delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs led by Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang, Chairwoman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, paid a working visit to Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

On December 27, the delegation paid a courtesy visit and had meetings with Mr. Sea Kosal, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia; Mr. Santibindit Sok Phal, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Interior of Cambodia; and Mr. Khuong Sreng, Mayor of Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

During the meetings, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang expressed her belief that the official visits of President To Lam and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man to Cambodia and the official visit of Cambodian King Sihamoni to Vietnam would bring new momentum, creating momentum for the two countries' relations to continue to develop in trust and closeness. The Deputy Minister and Cambodian leaders discussed mechanisms and measures to promote bilateral relations in all aspects as well as activities to be implemented in the coming year.

In the spirit of the traditional friendship between the two countries, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang thanked the Cambodian Government and people for creating favorable conditions for people of Vietnamese origin to live and work stably in Cambodia. The Deputy Minister also shared that the Vietnamese community in Cambodia is a young community, most of whom are of working age and school-age children, who want to make positive contributions to the socio-economic development of Cambodia. The Deputy Minister requested that Cambodian authorities continue to pay attention to and implement policies to create favorable conditions for people of Vietnamese origin to live legally, ensuring the right to education for children.

Leaders of the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia and the Metropolitan Municipality of Phnom Penh affirmed the importance of the traditional friendship and especially important neighborly relations with Vietnam, assessed that the relationship between the two countries is increasingly developing deeply and thanked the Party, State and people of Vietnam for their practical support in all aspects in recent times, and at the same time suggested that both sides promote projects to enhance the development of trade and tourism between the two countries.

Regarding the issue of Vietnamese people in Cambodia, the leaders of the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia and the Phnom Penh Metropolitan Municipality all affirmed the policy of continuing to create conditions for foreigners, including Vietnamese people, to live stably in the spirit of complying with Cambodian law.

Also on December 27, at the headquarters of the Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia, the Deputy Minister met and had a friendly talk with the Vietnam Business Association in Cambodia (VCBA) and the Khmer - Vietnam Association in Cambodia (KVA). The Deputy Minister highly appreciated the contributions of Vietnamese enterprises in Cambodia to the development of economic - trade and investment relations between the two countries, thereby supporting social security, creating jobs for people, including people of Vietnamese origin, and suggested that enterprises further promote their role in supporting people to change their careers and improve their lives. At the meeting, the Deputy Minister emphasized the important role of organizations representing the community in supporting, propagating, and orienting the Vietnamese community in Cambodia to comply with local laws, raising awareness of self-improvement, proactively integrating and making positive contributions to Cambodian society.

In order to further promote the results of the past time, first of all, the KVA Association must be a strong organization, playing the role of a center of community solidarity, always standing side by side to support people in all aspects of life. The Association needs to increase attraction and mobilize the participation of capable and prestigious people in the Association and have specific programs and plans to carry out community support tasks.

The Deputy Minister also acknowledged the recommendations of the KVA Association and the VCBA Association, affirming that the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to work with the authorities of both sides to find ways to remove difficulties and obstacles for people and businesses.
