In particular, he got perfect scores in Math and English. He also got 9.25 points in Literature. With two specialized subjects, Quan got 8.25 and 7.2 points.
Minh Quan and his family expressed their joy and surprise when they heard that he was the valedictorian in the 10th grade entrance exam. "In fact, Quan scored his own score, but the whole family did not think he would be the valedictorian," said Do Thi Kim Ngan, Quan's mother.
Mother's special rules
Ms. Ngan said that Quan is a person with a very high sense of self-learning. Right from primary school and especially when he was in secondary school, he always maintained his ability to study by himself. His parents only played the role of guiding and supporting him whenever he needed it.
The only thing Ms. Ngan has to "force" her child to do is go to bed before 11pm. "I limit my child's studying until then. At around 11pm, I start urging him to go to bed because he has to wake up at 6:30am the next morning to go to school," she said.
According to Ms. Ngan, Quan also has a very good ability to manage time. He always tries to complete the homework assigned by the teachers in class. After school, Quan studies outside and completes the assigned homework before 11pm.
Although he spends a lot of time studying, Minh Quan still goes swimming every afternoon.
"Before, my son also learned martial arts, played music, drew, played basketball... but since 8th grade, he was busy with exams and studying, so he only went swimming for about 1 hour every afternoon" - Ms. Ngan said and added, once Quan was swimming and he thought of a way to solve a math problem, he went back to shore, took out a pen and paper to write it down so he wouldn't forget.
Always creative, meticulous and serious in studying
Commenting on Minh Quan, Mr. Cao Van Dung - Math teacher at Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, his homeroom teacher - shared that Quan is a quiet, intelligent person, very serious in his studies. Math and IT are the two subjects that Quan loves and is best at. He also participates in the gifted student competition team in both subjects.
"In 8th grade, Quan focused on participating in the IT competition with his 9th grade classmates. He won second prize in this subject for two consecutive years in 8th and 9th grade," said teacher Dung.
Regarding memorable memories during the process of teaching Quan, Mr. Dung recalled that although he spent a lot of time on IT, Quan was very good at Math. When the teacher called him to the board to do exercises, Quan did very well and had very good and creative solutions.
"Quan passed both the IT and English exams. But if Quan took the Math exam, I'm sure he would still pass," said teacher Dung, adding that with Math and English being the requirements for entering grade 10, Quan's perfect score is not surprising.
The homeroom teacher expressed his impression of his Literature score. Although he was a student with strengths in natural sciences, Quan achieved a very high Literature score on the 10th grade entrance exam - 9.25 points.
Mr. Dung said that class 9A (math major) that he is in charge of has very high scores in Literature, most of them are 8 points or higher. "Quan and the students of class 9A are inspired to study Literature by the subject teacher. She is very dedicated, attentive to her students and is loved by them" - he said.
Sharing with Lao Dong, Ms. Vu Hong Nhung - Quan's Literature teacher - assessed that Minh Quan is a very serious, meticulous and studious student. His intelligence and logical thinking also help him a lot in systematizing his knowledge and presenting his work coherently. Therefore, when she heard that Minh Quan got 9.25 points in the subject she taught in the 10th grade entrance exam, Ms. Nhung felt very proud and happy.
"In class, Quan is modest, open-minded and hard-working. His Literature scores in the assessment tests are always between 8 and 9 points. Especially in the final stage, to prepare for the 10th grade entrance exam, Quan tried very hard. Therefore, the score of 9.25 is completely worthy of him," said Ms. Nhung.
Before knowing the results of the 10th grade entrance exam from the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, Minh Quan passed the IT major of the High School for Natural Sciences and the English major of the High School for Foreign Languages and the High School for Pedagogy.
"Quan has a good foundation in English thanks to learning English with his father. Since childhood, Quan was taught English by his father and later, besides learning English at school, he used English in daily communication with his father" - said Ms. Do Thi Kim Ngan, Quan's mother.
