Located 40km southwest of Hanoi city center, Bu Hill (Chuong My, Hanoi) has long been a paragliding coordinate for adventure enthusiasts. The reason why this place is chosen by many tourists as a "take-off" point is because the gentle hillside, about 1.5km long, surrounded by high mountain ranges, on sunny days creates a magical beauty.
Once in a lifetime experience
Like many other adventure sports, not everyone is brave enough to stand on the top of a hill, with a parachute on their back, run down the cliff and then fly into the air. Although each flight only lasts about 10 minutes, this sport requires players to be in good health and have a strong spirit to fully experience it.
Le Thi Thanh Thuy (Long Bien) and her husband arrived at Bu Hill early in the morning, hoping to be the first to take off that day. Thuy shared that this was the first time the couple had tried paragliding, and they had never participated in any form of adventure tourism before.
"When we learned that this sport was held right in Hanoi, my husband and I immediately registered to participate without thinking much. Anyway, we wanted to try it once to know the feeling," said Ms. Le Thi Thanh Thuy and her husband (Long Bien, Hanoi).
"Although I had prepared myself physically and mentally, as soon as I took off, I started to feel nauseous and a little dizzy. However, because the scenery below was so beautiful and majestic, I tried to hold back and continued flying, only asking the pilot to let me land a few minutes early," Thuy recounted.
Not only attracting domestic tourists, many foreign tourists also come to experience this type of adventure tourism.
"Paragliding is one of the things I want to try once in my life and Hanoi is the place I chose to do my first flight, an indescribable feeling," Ruth Fajardo, a tourist from the Philippines, shared.
Ruth Fajardo recounted that as she ran down the hill with her body relaxed, she felt as if she were floating in the air, with cool breezes coming from all directions. From that height, she could see the peaceful mountains and fields stretching out below.
Mr. Vu Tuan Dung - a pilot and parachute instructor who regularly flies at Bu Hill said that many people often confuse parachuting with paragliding. In fact, parachuting means you stand on a plane and then open your parachute to jump down, while paragliding is done from the top of a hill or mountain.
Safety first
When registering to try this activity, visitors will fly with an experienced instructor, fully equipped with safety measures. Paragliding does not require skills or experience from the player because there is an instructor and pilot flying with them to ensure safety. Players only need to follow the guided steps such as starting run, breathing, landing, etc.
"However, players should still prepare mentally and spiritually before participating. Absolutely do not fly a parachute alone without experience or professional training. People with a history of heart disease, blood pressure, etc. are also advised not to play this sport," said Mr. Dung.
The best time to experience paragliding at Bu Hill is in the fall and winter (from late September to December) when the weather is mild, cool, and there is little rain. When paragliding, special attention must be paid to the wind direction and wind speed because these are the factors that determine the direction of take-off and landing of the player.
In different weather and terrain conditions, caution should be exercised when deciding to parachute to avoid unfortunate incidents that endanger the lives of participants.
Currently, there are many units organizing paragliding activities at Bu Hill and other flying locations such as Vien Nam (Hoa Binh), Mu Cang Chai (Yen Bai) with the lowest price from 1.5 million VND/person for one experience.
