Senior Lieutenant General Phung Si Tan, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, requested officers to strictly abide by the discipline and laws of the host country; demonstrate their bravery and capacity and spread the beautiful image of the country and people of Vietnam. He hoped that female officers, when on duty far from the Fatherland and family, would take care of their health and overcome all difficulties when performing their duties.
On behalf of the four officers, Lieutenant Colonel Do Thi Hieu affirmed that she was ready to set out on her mission with the highest determination; she would always be united and proactively cooperate with her colleagues when carrying out her mission.
To date, Vietnam has sent 789 officers and staff to participate in peacekeeping activities at three missions and UN headquarters, including nearly 80 female soldiers.
The MINUSCA Mission in the Central African Republic was established in April 2014. Currently, 43 countries have sent forces to the Mission, including Vietnam, with the mission of protecting civilians and supporting the transition of power in the Central African Republic in the context of many armed groups operating. Most of the Central African Republic's territory is in the hands of armed groups and 60% of the country's population needs assistance.
The Republic of South Sudan is struggling with violence, natural disasters, economic instability, and political and military conflict. UNMISS is the largest UN peacekeeping mission with nearly 18,000 personnel. Its annual budget is over $1.2 billion, accounting for one-fifth of the UN peacekeeping budget.
The Abyei region covers an area of 10,546 km2 and is disputed between Sudan and South Sudan after the civil war in 2005. The UNISFA mission was established to maintain, ensure security and safety and prevent conflicts and disputes between the two countries.
