(CLO) The most serious plane crash in Korean history, which occurred on December 29, 2024 at Muan International Airport, killed 179 people and left only two survivors.
According to authorities, flight 7C2216 departing from Thailand encountered an accident while landing at Muan International Airport. The Jeju Air Boeing 737-800 skidded off the runway and hit a wall, causing a horrific fire.

Leaders from many countries and international organizations have sent their condolences to South Korea.
Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed "shock" at the tragedy and sent condolences to South Korea's acting President Choi Sang-mok and the victims' families.
“We are heartbroken to see the images from the accident. Europe stands with South Korea in this moment of sorrow,” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen wrote.
German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier called it an "unimaginable loss" and expressed his deep sympathy to the victims' families.
During a prayer service at the Vatican, Pope Francis shared: “I pray for the victims, survivors and grieving families in Korea.”
Iran's Foreign Ministry sent condolences to South Korea and Thailand, where two Thai passengers were on the flight.
The Singapore government expressed "deep sorrow" and hoped the survivors would recover quickly.
Spain's Foreign Ministry expressed "shock" at the news of the accident and sent its condolences to the families.
“The images from the scene are horrifying. We are deeply saddened by this loss,” President Aleksandar Vucic wrote on social media.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said: "We are deeply saddened by the tragic accident at Muan Airport in South Korea, a close friend of ours."
The International Air Transport Association (IATA), which represents 80% of global air traffic, said it was "shocked and saddened" by the incident.
South Korea is facing a serious loss of both human lives and the reputation of its aviation industry. The incident comes amid a period of political unrest in the country, adding to the pain.
The South Korean government has set up an investigation committee to determine the cause of the accident. The victims will be commemorated in a national funeral.
