Nguyen Xuan Son has been in Vietnam since 2019 and this is not the first time he has enjoyed the Tet atmosphere here. However, the At Ty 2025 spring for this player is very different from previous years. This year, he is a Vietnamese celebrating the Vietnamese New Year.
Nguyen Xuan Son is not just a Vietnamese citizen on paper. Besides proving that he deserves the opportunity to wear the national team jersey where he has just been naturalized, the striker born in 1997 always shows his "Vietnamization" in daily life even though he still cannot speak Vietnamese fluently.
The top scorer of the 2024 AFF Cup was discharged from the hospital on January 24. Upon arriving in Nam Dinh, Xuan Son and his wife and children took a set of Tet photos in red ao dai. This year, the family of the Nam Dinh club striker also came from his native Brazil to Vietnam to celebrate the Lunar New Year.
Xuan Son’s house in Nam Dinh is also filled with the atmosphere of Vietnamese Tet. Peach trees and many pots of blooming flowers are displayed in front of the porch and in the living room. Lanterns, paper fans and red decorations are also everywhere in the house.
Because Xuan Son cannot walk normally after the surgery, all the shopping and preparation for Tet is mainly done by his wife Marcele Seippel. The striker's wife is also familiar with the New Year's lucky money tradition, and has red envelopes on hand to give to young fans who come to visit Xuan Son.
Nguyen Xuan Son celebrates Tet with rehabilitation exercises at home. In the video posted by this striker on his personal Facebook account, fans can see Xuan Son without any bandages or braces on his leg when practicing. The player born in 1997 shared images of his practice along with famous Tet songs on social media.
Celebrating Tet in Vietnam for the sixth time, Xuan Son is no longer a guest from afar coming here to enjoy the traditional holiday. Familiar with the lifestyle and customs, "addicted" to local dishes, Xuan Son probably only lacks the language to fully integrate.
