(HNMO) - In the coming time, Boeing will invest in developing a supply chain of aviation spare parts and equipment in Vietnam.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade announced today (May 28) that on the sidelines of the APEC Trade Ministers' Meeting and the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) Trade Ministers' Meeting in Detroit, USA, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien had a working session with Mr. Steve Biegun - Senior Vice President of Boeing Corporation (USA).

At the meeting, Mr. Steve Biegun affirmed that, based on the potential and important position of the Vietnamese market for Boeing's business strategy, the group has opened a representative office in Vietnam.

In the coming time, Boeing will focus on three main directions in Vietnam, including: Further enhancing commercial relations in the aviation sector with airlines in Vietnam; cooperation in a number of specific fields, such as helicopters and transportation; investing in developing the supply chain of aviation spare parts and equipment in Vietnam.

Minister Nguyen Hong Dien highly appreciated the Boeing Group's desire to build a strategic partnership in the Vietnamese market and to cooperate more deeply to develop the aviation ecosystem. This will also contribute to promoting bilateral trade between Vietnam and the United States.

Several suppliers in Vietnam have been supporting the production of some Boeing commercial aircraft components, such as some aircraft structural parts, components, aircraft interiors and composite materials.

However, the enterprises participating in the aerospace supply chain still mainly come from foreign-invested enterprises from the US, Japan, Korea, etc. Purely Vietnamese enterprises can only produce small components with low added value.

Therefore, Boeing's investment in Vietnam in the coming time needs to actively contribute to creating a stronger spillover effect on improving the production and manufacturing capacity of Vietnamese enterprises.

Minister Nguyen Hong Dien said that since 2020, the aerospace industry has been included in the list of high-tech industries that Vietnam has prioritized for investment and development. In the mechanical engineering industry, large, purely Vietnamese corporations have been formed in Vietnam with capacity, and are ready to invest in research and development, machinery and equipment to pursue larger goals in the high-tech field and can completely become potential partners of Boeing in the future.

Therefore, the Ministry of Industry and Trade is ready to coordinate with strategic partners such as Boeing in designing a favorable cooperation framework, ensuring sustainable development for the aviation support industry in Vietnam; helping Vietnamese suppliers to gradually participate in Boeing's global value chain, while helping Boeing realize its strategic goals and long-term vision.

Minister Nguyen Hong Dien suggested that Boeing Corporation accelerate the process of developing suppliers in Vietnam, build specific connection and support projects; spend time surveying, working, and consulting with supporting industry enterprises that can meet the requirements set by the company; send experts to support enterprises in training personnel and transferring technology when they meet all conditions.

Boeing Corporation has accepted the invitation of Minister Nguyen Hong Dien to participate in the international supplier connection event - Vietnam Sourcing 2023 organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade in September in Ho Chi Minh City to introduce and seek cooperation opportunities with Vietnamese enterprises in Boeing's global value chain.
