Speaking to Thanh Nien on the afternoon of April 28, a representative of Tan Son Nhat International Airport said that the unit is urgently completing the roof system to facilitate passengers waiting for technology cars at the international terminal area.
This work was prepared right after the change of the technology car pick-up point, but because the project had to dig the foundation and drive piles, it needed time to wait for the concrete layer underneath to dry. At the same time, the roof system was waiting to be imported from Japan, so in order to put it into use in time for the April 30 - May 1 holidays, the workers had to work through the night in the past few days.
Currently, a part of the canopy has been completed and will be put into service for passengers from tomorrow (April 29) - the first peak day of the holiday. It is expected that by May 5, the entire canopy system will cover the nearly 20m stretch of road that passengers walk from in front of the terminal to the international parking lot to catch a technology taxi.
In parallel, Tan Son Nhat Port has developed a specific plan and working plan with technology car companies to guide passengers from the terminal entrance to the technology car park and open a separate exit lane for technology cars at this new location.
Previously, from April 15, Tan Son Nhat airport has changed the pick-up location of the technology car system. If previously, technology taxis were arranged to pick up passengers at 5 locations in lane B - international arrival terminal (columns 9 - 12), now they have switched to pick up passengers at 11 locations in the international terminal parking lot. The parking lot is less than 20m from the old pick-up area.
"The adjustment of technology vehicles at the international arrival terminal is part of the overall adjustment of Tan Son Nhat International Airport's traffic infrastructure with the aim of reducing congestion during peak periods. The port has worked with the Southern Airport Authority to implement the overall arrangement of technology vehicles, taxis, contract vehicles, private vehicles and buses to best serve the exploitation activities, especially during peak periods. Technology vehicles are only the first subject of adjustment, not the only one" - Tan Son Nhat Port representative informed.
According to the operation plan of Tan Son Nhat Airport during the peak period of Hung Kings' Commemoration Day (10th of the third lunar month) and April 30 - May 1, from April 28 to May 3, this airport will serve 4,466 flights with a total of 755,910 passengers. Of which, there are 1,380 international flights (255/715 passengers) and 3,086 domestic flights (500,195 passengers).
It is forecasted that tomorrow (April 29) will be the day serving the highest number of passengers - nearly 125,760 passengers. Starting today (April 28), the Youth Union of Tan Son Nhat International Airport in coordination with the Youth Union of Vietnam Aviation Academy has organized a volunteer campaign to support the unit to reduce the load during the peak holiday season.
Volunteers will focus on participating in traffic flow and guiding and supporting passengers to check in, passengers to collect luggage, especially the disabled, the elderly, children, pregnant women. At the same time, they will participate in supporting the collection of luggage carts, cleaning the environment; guiding the traffic flow of taxis and passenger shuttles...
