When fans are disappointed by their own idols
Indie, whose full name is Independent Music, refers to artists who pursue independent music trends. There, they compose, arrange and record themselves, without being controlled by entertainment companies or advertising contracts. Their compositions belong to different music genres, which can be pop, rock, R&B, ballad, but most of them are experiences and emotions of a unique musical personality.
Over the past decade, indie artists have made a series of positive contributions to the Vietnamese music industry, and the leading flag among them is Ngọt. Founded in 2013, from 4 students who "go to school in the morning, go to work, and play music at night" (as member Viet Hoang once shared), they have taken great strides on the vast path they created themselves. There, Ngọt owns awards, creates a series of famous "hits". More importantly, they have a large fan community, not inferior to anyone, especially the generation born after 1990.

The gentle melody, poetic lyrics but still full of personality in Sweet's compositions such as: Em dao nay; Ngọt; La lan; Cho em... have become beautiful memories for the youth of many music lovers. Sweet's brilliance has motivated many indie artists, helping them confidently embark on creating works that leave their own mark.
And so, on the afternoon of March 19, the band Ngọt's post on the official Fanpage about stopping operations made many people sad and regretful. "Ngọt officially stops performing from today. Thank you very much! A very meaningful journey. We will continue to produce Ngọt's last album" - The band's brief announcement left hundreds of thousands of people interested and commented.
It is not unusual for a band to stop working after 11 years. Previously, in a conversation, the band leader Vu Dinh Trong Thang shared that they once wanted to stop, then encouraged each other to continue. A year before Ngọt, Ca Hoi Hoang - a leading indie band also announced their disbandment, leaving behind their final album as a farewell to the public.
Across forums, it is not difficult to see the sadness of Ngọt's fans in the past few days. A series of exclamations of "unbelievable"; "collapsed"; "hoping the band will reconsider" were posted after the announcement was made. Then, just a few days later, those feelings were quickly replaced by disappointment and anger. The reason is because, in the next announcement, Ngọt revealed that they would cancel all shows, ready to compensate for costs according to the contract. The apology to the organizers of the programs was given briefly and sketchily.
"Irresponsible", "unprofessional", "disappointing", "no apology to the fans" are the phrases that Ngọt's fans painfully used in their idol's post. Many comments questioned why Ngọt couldn't give a more complete farewell, responding to the affection of the audience. They also compared Ngọt to Cá Hồi Hoang - the band that wrote a thoughtful farewell, expressing gratitude to all those who made up Cá Hồi Hoang's 10 years, and said goodbye to the fans with a quality tour across Vietnam afterwards.
The audience's anger made Ngọt's ending incomplete, as the bitterness was probably for both sides - the artists and the fans. The way the top band in the Vietnamese music scene broke up is exactly the way many people think about indie activities - free, spontaneous and unprofessional.

Could Sweetness Just Be Pausing?
Over the years, Ngọt has received high praise from experts, including many veteran artists. Talking to Dan Viet , musician Quoc Trung once affirmed: "Ngọt is a rare band that has created its own unique path in the Vietnamese music industry. They are not similar or mixed with those currently on the market. Musical style is the prerequisite for an artist's success, no matter how different means of transmission he uses. If he doesn't have a style, no one will remember him. Ngọt has done that." Meanwhile, musician Do Bao highly appreciates the very new spirit, emotions, and thoughts of the younger generation in Ngọt's compositions.

Regarding Ngọt's suspension, musician Tran Tuan Hung - leader of the rock band Bức Tường shared that he was surprised but not surprised, because Bức Tường himself had also experienced a similar time: "In 2006, after more than 10 years of operation, Bức Tường had to say goodbye, we and the fans were all surprised. Many tears were shed, but only those involved could understand and accept this story. I believe Cá Hồi Hoang and Ngọt are "on vacation", not that they have disappeared, so we should not worry too much about the loss".
He also added: "The leaders of these two bands are both doing good independent activities. After a while, I hope they will come back with a new spirit and more good things. But in the meantime, maybe it's a good opportunity for new indie bands to rise up and assert themselves. Life will always move and good things are always waiting for us ahead."
When asked if Ngọt was unprofessional when canceling the show at the time of their breakup, musician Tran Tuan Hung said: "Ngọt has been very professional for the past 10 years with explosive products and shows, thereby winning the hearts of the audience. Only those who are involved can fully understand the situation and certainly at this time they have no other way to resolve it better, so I will not judge this. Please sympathize and respect that difficult decision."
Meanwhile, musician Duong Truong Giang said that it was the high expectations from the audience that made Ngọt's farewell create regret and anger: "Bands can only go a long way together when the members of the group are united, their goals are still the same as when they first started. However, there are not many such bands. I think "the lost fish is the big fish", the audience builds up expectations for a dream band, but unfortunately that is difficult to happen in reality".
