DAILY MIRROR. Sri Lanka's new President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has appointed a cabinet ahead of early parliamentary elections and the renegotiation of the IMF bailout programme.

Xinhua News Agency. 558 people have been killed and 1,835 injured in heavy Israeli airstrikes on southern and eastern Lebanon since September 23, according to Lebanese Health Minister Firas Abiad.

UNHCR. “The United Nations is extremely concerned about the serious escalation in attacks on 23 September in Lebanon,” UN High Commissioner for Refugees spokesman Matthew Saltmarsh told reporters in Geneva.

CNN. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian called on the UN Security Council to “ act immediately ” to prevent the escalation of the conflict in Lebanon, lest it “become another Gaza.”

Europe

ANADOLU. Turkey's national carrier Turkish Airlines and low-cost carrier Pegasus Airlines have canceled flights to and from Lebanon due to increased risk.

AFP. The world's leading paint manufacturer AkzoNobel of the Netherlands announced cutting 2,000 jobs globally, equivalent to more than 5% of its workforce.

AP. The UAE is the second-largest defense partner of the United States, after India, US President Joe Biden acknowledged after talks with his UAE counterpart Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Washington DC.
