According to Gaming Bolt , the holiday season of 2023 will be the first time that PlayStation 5 consoles will be fully stocked in every region of the world, part of Sony's goal of breaking sales records.
The PlayStation 5 has been a huge success for Sony, but despite being on the market for nearly three years, 2023 is when the company will really start to reap the rewards. Eric Lempel, Sony's head of business operations, told CNBC that the company is aiming to ship 25 million PlayStation 5 consoles this fiscal year, which will be achieved thanks to the device being stocked around the world.
"This holiday season is the first year-end holiday season where we will have full availability of PlayStation 5 in every geography," Lempel said. "We faced supply chain challenges when we launched in 2020. Unfortunately, we were unable to provide enough PlayStation 5 for every consumer who wanted it."
Earlier in 2020, the company faced supply issues since the console's launch due to the global pandemic and chip shortages.
By “rebalancing” supply and demand, Lempel said the company expects record-breaking sales during the 2023 holiday season. The game Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is also a big factor and will boost the business, selling more than 2.5 million copies in its first 24 hours.
Interestingly, however, the company did not mention the upcoming refresh of the console, which will reportedly launch on November 10 and replace the previous standard PlayStation 5 model.
