Captain striker Son Heung-min dislocated his finger after a clash with a young South Korean player at the 2023 Asian Cup.
At dinner the day before South Korea lost to Jordan in the Asian Cup semi-finals, some of the young players on the team decided to grab a quick bite to eat and play table tennis. Son was not pleased, and suggested they stay at the table to finish their meal and chat with his teammates. But the group of young players said something disrespectful, causing the team captain to become angry and fight, according to Sun Sport .

Among this group of young players is rising star Lee Kang-in, who plays for PSG. Son and Lee both scored three goals at the 2023 Asian Cup, while no other South Korean player scored more than one. However, Son and Lee rarely combined.
Seconds after the brawl, other teammates rushed in to stop it. But Son dislocated his right finger, forcing him to wear a bandage on his index and middle fingers in the match against Jordan. South Korea lost 0-2 and were eliminated, with Son crying after the final whistle.
The Korea Football Association (KFA) confirmed the information, saying that there was a conflict between players during the tournament. The KFA also said that Son dislocated his arm from this incident. The team reported the incident to the federation, but they only made the information public after the British media exposed it.
After returning from the 2023 Asian Cup, the KFA held several meetings to evaluate coach Jurgen Klinsmann's ability after the tournament. The first meeting concluded that Klinsmann was "not good enough" to lead South Korea. Subsequent meetings will assess whether the KFA should fire the German coach.
