This is information about the aviation market during the peak period of Tet At Ty 2025 reported by the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam to the Ministry of Transport this morning, February 3, 2025.
Accordingly, during the Lunar New Year holiday period in 2025 (from January 24 to February 2, 2025, i.e. from December 25, Giap Thin year to January 5, At Ty year), the total passenger transport output of the entire aviation market will reach 2.5 million passengers (an increase of 17.8%); of which, international passenger transport will reach 1.35 million passengers (an increase of 23%); domestic passenger transport will reach 1.14 million passengers (an increase of 12% over the same period in 2024).
Vietnamese airlines transported more than 1.67 million passengers, up 12.8%, and nearly 7,000 tons of cargo, up 4% over the same period in 2024, of which international transport reached more than 536,000 passengers and more than 3,600 tons of cargo, up 14% in passengers and a slight increase of 1.1% in cargo compared to the same period in 2024; domestic transport reached more than 1.1 million passengers and 3,200 tons of cargo, up 12% in passengers and 7.4% in cargo compared to the same period in 2024.
Passengers passing through airports nationwide also increased compared to the same period last year, with approximately 3.6 million passengers (up 16% compared to the same period in 2024).
At key airports, passenger volume also increased compared to the same period in 2024, specifically Tan Son Nhat International Airport reached approximately 1.38 million passengers (up 7.6%); Noi Bai International Airport reached approximately 900,000 passengers (up 12%) and Da Nang International Airport reached more than 381,000 passengers (up 26%).
In particular, during the 2025 Lunar New Year holiday, Tan Son Nhat International Airport served from 824 to 970 takeoffs and landings per day, with an average of 138,000 passengers per day.
The peak day, a record, was January 24 (ie December 25, the last working day before Tet holiday), Tan Son Nhat International Airport operated 1,002 takeoffs and landings (an increase of 10% compared to the same period in 2024), with 152,000 passengers (an increase of 13% compared to the same period in 2024). This level of exploitation was higher than that of Lunar New Year 2020.
According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, the problem that emerged during some days during the peak period of Tet was the situation of delayed flights. This situation arose mainly due to unfavorable weather conditions when fog and low clouds appeared in the area of airports and airfields in the North.
Adverse weather conditions cause disruptions to flight operations, with planes being delayed in departure, having to circle around, arriving late, or having to change airports to land.
The second reason for flight delays is also due to overloaded airport infrastructure, which prolongs the time planes have to wait to taxi into the parking lot and taxi out onto the runway when operations are increased to meet passenger demand.
