Defeating Brighton, Arsenal regained the top spot

Gabriel Jesus opened the scoring and Kai Havertz finished at Emirates Stadium, helping Arsenal regain the taste of victory to continue competing for the top spot with strong candidate Liverpool.

Premier League runners-up Arsenal dominated the game at the Emirates Stadium, hunting for a goal. Arsenal had 58% possession in the first half, taking eight shots with three on target, while Brighton failed to even manage a shot on target. The Gunners attacked strongly down the right flank, where Bukayo Saka charged forward like a predator, stealing the ball and shooting repeatedly. But he wasted several chances before he won a corner in the 53rd minute.

It was a corner kick that turned the game when the ball was poured into the Adam's apple area, center back Jan Paul van Hecke jumped up to head the ball but could only knock it back. Unfortunately for the seagulls, the ball fell at the far post just in time for Gabriel to head into the empty net.

With nothing to lose, Brighton surged forward to take control of the game (59%), firing six shots to Arsenal's 11. Kai Havertz doubled the Gunners' lead in the closing minutes, running onto Eddie Nketiah's pass, driving into the box before beating goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen with a 12-yard chip.

In two games at the same time, Aston Villa came from behind to beat 10-man Brentford, while West Ham crushed Wolves 3-0.

Unai Emery's side looked to have collapsed against Brentford when Keane Lewis-Potter found the back of the net in the first half. However, a poor challenge from Ben Mee that saw him sent off in the 71st minute changed the game. Six minutes later, Villa capitalised on their man advantage and equalised when Alex Moreno headed home Leon Bailey's cross.

Ollie Watkins completed the comeback against his former club when he headed home from a corner with five minutes remaining. Aston Villa now have 38 points from 17 games, level with Liverpool (who later shared points with Man United) and just one behind Arsenal.
