The US military announced on December 16 that it had carried out an airstrike on a Houthi command and control facility in Yemen.
"The target was a coordination center for Houthi activities, such as attacks on US Navy warships and merchant vessels in the southern Red Sea and Gulf of Aden," the US Central Command (CENTCOM) stressed in a statement, according to AFP.
"The airstrike reflects CENTCOM's ongoing commitment to protecting US and coalition personnel, regional partners, and international shipping," CENTCOM continued.
Protesters, mostly Houthi supporters, show support for Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, in Sanaa (Yemen) on December 13.
There is no information yet on the Houthi response. Meanwhile, Al-Masirah TV, a Houthi-run news channel, reported on the morning of December 17 that a US airstrike targeted the al-Ardi complex in the Yemeni capital Sanaa.
The Houthis began attacking ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden in November 2023, claiming the attacks were in solidarity with Palestinians in the Gaza Strip in the Hamas-Israel conflict.

The US and other countries have deployed military ships to help protect shipping from Houthi attacks.
The US military has also carried out regular airstrikes on the Houthis to weaken their ability to attack US ships and has sought to seize weapons shipments to the Houthis, but attacks by the group have continued, according to AFP.
