According to IGN , the PlayStation Network (PSN) has been down since the evening of February 7, affecting users around the world as they are unable to play online games or access some digital games. The problem lasted for more than 14 hours, but Sony has yet to officially respond beyond a short statement confirming the service is experiencing problems.

PlayStation Network service is experiencing serious problems, affecting many features such as account management, online gaming

Some users have been able to log back in and access the PlayStation Store, but most online games, including the Monster Hunter Wilds open beta, remain down. According to tracking site DownDetector, the outage began at 6:14 p.m. ET on February 7, with more than 70,000 reports within 30 minutes.

The incident is reminiscent of the 21-day outage in 2011, when hackers attacked Sony's systems and exposed the personal information of 77 million accounts. At that time, Sony had to compensate with a "Welcome Back" program, offering users a free month of PlayStation Plus and two free games. There is no evidence that this incident was caused by a cyberattack, but the length of the outage and Sony's lack of transparency are worrying many.

In addition to blocking online gaming, the issue also affected digital games that required PSN license authentication. PlayStation Portal owners were also severely impacted, as the device requires a network connection to stream games from the PS5 or the cloud. Some PC gamers also reported being unable to play PS5 titles ported to the platform, despite Sony removing the PSN login requirement on PC in late January.

Sony's social media X announcement acknowledged the issue but did not provide further details, causing outrage in the community with a very high number of comments and shares.

Sony has yet to respond to requests for clarification on the cause of the problem. The most recent official statement was posted on the Ask PlayStation on X (Twitter) account on the evening of February 7, simply confirming that the company "received reports of the problem" without providing further details.

It is still unclear when PSN will be fully back up and running, with users waiting for Sony to provide a concrete explanation and take appropriate action if the problem persists.
