Restoration of local I1 rice variety in Song Ma district

After 3 years of implementation, the project on breeding techniques and development of local rice variety I1 in Song Ma district, up to now, the project has received Local rice variety I1 from the initial gene pool stored at the Plant Resources Center - Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences and built a breeding technical process.

In 2024, 13 households in Na Hin village, Na Nghiu commune participated in the local rice commercial production model (I1) with an area of ​​1ha from purebred seeds through the project's selection methods. During the implementation process, the people were instructed by the staff of the Center for Research and Technology Transfer on soil preparation, sowing, transplanting and fertilizing according to each stage of rice development and how to prevent pests and diseases. Evaluation showed that the rice plants grew well, had few pests and diseases, and yielded from 5.2 tons to 5.6 tons/ha.

Mr. Ca Van Noi's family, Na Hin village, Na Nghiu commune, grows 1000m2 of commercial I1 rice. Realizing that the rice variety is very suitable and productive, his family wants to continue to maintain this rice variety.

Mr. Ca Van Noi - Na Hin village, Na Nghiu commune, Song Ma district, Son La: I1 rice variety was grown in the past, but gradually it had too many other varieties, so it was lost. Now that you guys have brought this variety down, I hope we can maintain this variety, creating quality rice for our people .

Song Ma district currently has over 2,270 hectares of rice, producing 2 crops/year. The successful propagation and development of the local rice variety I1 has contributed to creating high-quality rice products, meeting market demand. At the same time, it opens up a sustainable direction to improve the lives of local people.
