DNVN - The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development said that in order to develop green agriculture, the agricultural sector must change its production mindset. That is, shifting from agricultural production to agricultural economics, focusing on increasing value, efficiency, and diversification along the value chain to meet market demands.

The 5th Conference of the 13th Party Central Committee on agriculture, farmers, and rural areas to 2030, with a vision to 2045, has oriented agricultural development towards ecological agriculture. In particular, focusing on developing green agriculture, organic agriculture, and circular agriculture.

To develop green agriculture and ecological agriculture, the Prime Minister issued the Strategy for Sustainable Agricultural and Rural Development for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050 (Strategy). The general goal of the Strategy is to build a modern, productive, efficient and sustainable commodity agriculture.

Green agricultural development is an inevitable trend.

According to Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan, the Strategy sets a target that by 2030, in the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector, the GDP growth rate will reach an average of 2.5 - 3%/year. At the same time, the labor productivity growth rate will reach an average of 5.5 - 6%/year, expanding and developing markets, especially export markets, with an average export value growth rate of 5 - 6%/year.

The Government has also approved the Organic Agriculture Development Project for the 2020-2030 period, with the goal of developing organic agriculture with high added value, sustainability, and environmental friendliness. The project is associated with a circular agricultural economy serving domestic consumption and export.

In addition, towards the development of green agriculture, there is also the National Action Plan for the transformation of a transparent, responsible and sustainable food system in Vietnam by 2030; the Project for sustainable development of one million hectares of high-quality and low-emission rice cultivation associated with green growth in the Mekong Delta by 2030.

To develop a circular economy, the Prime Minister has also approved the Circular Economy Development Project in Vietnam. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is assigned by the Government to complete institutions and policies to create a legal corridor for the formation and development of circular economy models in agriculture and rural development; research and implement solutions to improve the capacity to recycle and reuse agricultural by-products and waste.

“To develop green agriculture, the agricultural sector must change its production mindset. That is, shifting from agricultural production to agricultural economics, focusing on increasing value, efficiency, and diversification along the value chain to meet market demands,” Mr. Hoan emphasized.

In addition, the agricultural sector needs to apply synchronous processes and technologies. At the same time, it is necessary to use input materials for agricultural production rationally and economically, and use natural resources effectively without affecting the environment or human health.
