In his latest post on the Truth Social platform on April 13 local time, US President Donald Trump reaffirmed that no country is allowed to avoid responsibility for what he called “unfair trade deficits with the US as well as non-tariff barriers”, and directly targeted China.

Speaking further about the April 11 announcement from the US Customs and Border Protection Agency, Mr. Trump clarified that the decision regarding items such as computers, smartphones and semiconductors is not a decision to exempt them from tariffs, as they are still subject to the current 20% tax, but rather a change in the method of classifying the items.

“There were no ‘tariff exceptions’ announced on Friday. These products are still subject to the current 20% Fentanyl tariff, they are just being moved to a different tariff group,” Trump said.

According to CNBC, Mr. Trump also condemned the mainstream media for reporting false information and emphasized: "Fake news clearly understands this, but does not report it."

Not stopping there, the US President also revealed that the US government will launch a new investigation into tariffs related to national security factors, to comprehensively evaluate the semiconductor sector as well as the supply chain in the electronics industry.
