On the morning of November 25, the People's Committee of Quang Trung Ward reported to Dong Da District about the discovery of many ceramic urns during the construction of the drainage system at Lane 167 Tay Son.
According to reports, the area of lane 167 Tay Son often floods. After each rain, the water is knee-deep, overflowing into people's houses, damaging furniture and affecting people's lives.
This area has 3 blocks of apartment buildings, many small houses, many agency headquarters and the Union University dormitory.
In 2024, the People's Committee of Quang Trung Ward was assigned by the district as the investor to implement the project to renovate the entire ward's infrastructure, including the project of adding a drainage system and renovating the road surface in the area of lane 167 Tay Son to solve the urgent and pressing flooding situation here.
"During the project implementation process, a number of ceramic urns (408 pieces) were discovered. The Ward People's Committee has reported to the District People's Committee," the report stated.
The area discovered more than 400 skeletons.
Quang Trung Ward said that currently, 138 sets of ashes have been supported by the City Funeral Committee to be moved and buried at Yen Ky cemetery, Ba Vi district, Hanoi. The remaining ashes are expected to be moved around December 1-3.
According to the report, the construction has completed the road excavation phase. After bringing up the subgrades, the construction unit will continue to build the culvert and restore the road surface.
"In general, the situation of the people in the area is stable, there is no panic because they know that in this area, when constructing any project, more or less small bones are discovered," the report stated.
According to the Quang Trung Ward People's Committee, people want the project to be completed soon and it is necessary to move the remains to a new collection site. People also agree with the policy and construction measures that the ward and district are implementing.
About 10 days ago, authorities discovered about 150 sets of bones in lane 167 Tay Son street.
According to the leader of Quang Trung ward, through information from surrounding people, it was determined that these were the remains of ordinary people, from about 50-70 years ago.
