Venerable Zen Master Hae Min collected his thoughts to write the book "When Things Don't Go As You Wish" (The Gioi Publishing House, 2024) consisting of 6 chapters, corresponding to "times" in life: "When things don't go as you wish"; "When your heart is in pain"; "When you feel exhausted and unhappy"; "When loneliness visits"; "When facing uncertainty"; "When enlightenment has yet to come" along with "realization" moments drawn from the author's profound experiences.

Through each page of the book, he leads readers to an important change in perception: from unsatisfactory experiences are rare opportunities for us to redefine our true selves, rediscover ourselves, and thereby mature emotionally and spiritually - when we learn to live patiently, courageously, compassionately and honestly through the feelings we have experienced. The level of maturity will correspond to the severity of the "when" - the circumstances we face.

“When feeling exhausted and unhappy”, the author reminds us to look for SBCH (Small But Certain Happiness) which means “small but certain happiness” - small but certain happiness, when we pay attention to appreciate the things right in front of us; let’s locate our own “Querencia” (Spanish for the place where bulls rest and recover after the fight), to find shelter and heal after the “battle” of life.

“When faced with uncertainty”, having the courage to say “I can’t” – or learning to let go is also necessary. It means allowing yourself to explore a new path. Or when life becomes confusing and full of difficulties, remind yourself to stop and listen to your mind, to clarify whether to continue, which direction is right and what you really want in life.

Author - Venerable Hae Min is a Korean Zen master who has a great influence on young people. He is the author of two best-selling books that are familiar to Vietnamese readers: “Slow down in the middle of a busy world” and “Love the imperfect things”. His books are famous (sold more than 6 million copies worldwide, translated into 38 languages) not only for their meditation instructions but also for helping readers heal and overcome challenges in modern life. In 2015, Venerable Hae Min and many experts opened a spiritual therapy school, providing free treatment to people who are unhappy in life or are suffering from many mental illnesses.
