Having just been elected to the board of directors of Trieu An Private General Hospital, Mr. Tram Be officially returned to the business world after 7 years in prison.

At the annual meeting of Trieu An Private General Hospital Joint Stock Company earlier this week, Mr. Tram Be was elected as an additional member of the board of directors for the 2022-2027 term.

Thus, the businessman from Tra Vinh officially returned to the business world after completing two 7-year criminal sentences related to Phuong Nam Bank and Saigon Thuong Tin (Sacombank). He was just released from prison in mid-February this year.

Before returning to this position, Mr. Tram Be participated in the establishment and was Chairman of the Board of Directors of Trieu An Hospital. In 2017, he was involved in legal trouble, so the chairmanship was taken over by Mr. Tran Ngoc Henri - considered Mr. Tram Be's deputy.

Mr. Tram Be was born in 1959 and started his career in exploiting wood resources with Dong Anh Forestry Processing Company. Later, he participated in real estate with Binh Chanh Construction Investment Company (BCCI) and then in the medical sector of Trieu An Hospital. He also invested in the agricultural sector through Son Son Seafood Processing Company - which had a monopoly on the irradiated dragon fruit market in Vietnam in the early 2000s.

His name began to attract public attention when he entered the financial market with Southern Bank, then proceeded to acquire Sacombank.

Trieu An Hospital was built by Mr. Be, Dr. Nguyen Hai Nam and Mr. Lam Trung Luong in 2001. At that time, the State had a policy of socializing healthcare with many incentives and the private medical examination and treatment market still had a lot of vacant land.

As one of the first private hospitals in the country and with a large scale, Trieu An Hospital announced that it treats tens of thousands of emergency cases and examines hundreds of thousands of people each year. In the past 10 years, this hospital has always had a revenue of over 350 billion VND and a profit of over 30 billion VND each year, except for the peak of the epidemic in 2021 when it reported a loss of 27 billion for the first time. During the time Mr. Tram Be was in prison, people close to him still held many important leadership positions.

Last year alone, Trieu An received more than 27,000 emergency cases, examined more than 262,000 patients, and treated nearly 18,500 inpatients, including more than 6,200 surgeries. As a result, revenue increased to more than VND590 billion and after-tax profit reached more than VND40 billion.

This year, Trieu An Hospital aims to have 628 billion VND in revenue and 47 billion VND in after-tax profit. Both targets increase by 6% and 15% respectively compared to last year.
