(Dan Tri) - In addition to possessing two international language certificates with impressive scores, Nguyen Thao Nhi also attracted attention when she was on the list of excellent students in Italy in the 2018-2019 school year.
Nguyen Thao Nhi (born 2003, Thua Thien - Hue) is currently a second-year student majoring in International Business Law at Hanoi Foreign Trade University. She has an impressive academic record, having achieved two international language certificates with almost perfect scores, including 8.5 IELTS (8.5/9) and CELI 4 (level 4/5). Having had the opportunity to live and study in Rome (Italy), Thao Nhi was honored to be included in the "Tutti 10 in pagella" list to honor students across Italy who achieved an overall score of 10 for all subjects.
Learning a foreign language is the key to opening up many opportunities for the future.
The first foreign language Thao Nhi came into contact with was Italian. The learning process took place very quickly and naturally because the female student had the opportunity to follow her father on a business trip to Rome (Italy) in grade 2. During her time in Italy, Nhi was always active in introducing Vietnamese culture and cuisine to teachers and international friends through exchanges and extracurricular activities. In particular, the girl born in 2003 once carried out a junior high school graduation project (according to the Italian program) on the topic of Vietnam from the perspective of the subjects and achieved an absolute score of 10/10 with an honors degree. As for English, Thao Nhi began to be exposed to it since she was a primary school student through teaching at school. The female student did not have many opportunities to practice in an environment similar to her mother tongue. It was not until the end of middle school that she began to realize its importance and spent more time improving it. Sharing with Dan Tri reporter, Thao Nhi said: "Learning a new language helps me expand my knowledge, connect with different cultures around the world and gain deeper access to human knowledge. I believe that mastering many foreign languages is the key to opening up more opportunities and choices for the future. When looking for a suitable job, it is a strength that helps you score points with employers, especially in international environments or non-governmental organizations. My biggest motivation comes from realizing that foreign languages are indispensable for each person to develop both their career and soul in the current context of international integration."
Foreign Trade female student achieved IELTS 8.5 after 6 months of studying.
In the summer of 2021, the girl born in 2003 returned to Vietnam to study grade 12 at a high school in Hanoi. At that time, the Covid-19 epidemic was intense and Thao Nhi had to study online for more than half a year. Having not studied subjects in Vietnamese for a long time, Thao Nhi made constant efforts to keep up with the high school graduation exam preparation program and apply for university admission in the country. In March 2022, the Hue-born female student achieved IELTS 8.5 after 6 months of studying. Thanks to her foreign language certificate and high school graduation exam score, Nhi was admitted to Hanoi Foreign Trade University and was honored as the valedictorian of Alfred Nobel Secondary and High School. "Learning both English and Italian did not make me feel more difficult, on the contrary, they complemented each other a lot. These two languages have certain similarities in grammar, vocabulary, and sentence structure, so they are quite accessible. However, there was one difficulty I encountered when learning English, which was the influence of the Italian accent, which made my pronunciation not natural and fluent at first," Thao Nhi confided.
Certificates should not be the destination of foreign language learning.
According to Thao Nhi, possessing an international language certificate helps increase the chances of being admitted to domestic universities and meeting the job requirements of employers. When starting to learn a new language, the factors that Thao Nhi decides are motivation and perseverance. The girl born in 2003 understands that learning a foreign language is a long-term process, requiring time to experience and accumulate, and cannot be mastered in a day or two. Motivation can come from small joys such as the desire to read a book, enjoy a favorite movie without reading subtitles. The Hue-born student believes that everyone should find a way to "absorb" knowledge that makes them feel happy and excited, so that each hour of learning a foreign language is always interesting. If you do not have all of the above factors, it is easy to get discouraged and give up halfway or waste time learning in a perfunctory, unenthusiastic way.
Thao Nhi once had the opportunity to appear and share on the program "IELTS Face-Off" on VTV7.
Thao Nhi shared: "Taking a certificate exam should not be considered the destination of learning a foreign language. Knowledge is limitless and so is language. Approaching a language is never redundant because you will always learn new things according to the constant movement and change of society. We should not "deify" taking a foreign language certificate exam, nor should we have an overly negative view of it, but should see it as a powerful tool to serve the different needs of each person". The girl born in 2003 believes that learning a foreign language is a way to free the soul and explore other aspects of herself. Thao Nhi realizes that she expresses different personalities through communication. There are emotions that she feels very comfortable expressing in a foreign language but is very shy when speaking in her mother tongue.
At present, thanks to her foreign language skills, Nhi has the opportunity to access suitable part-time jobs such as tutoring, teaching assistant, translation collaborator... both creating a source of income and practicing skills and knowledge. Talking about her future plans, Thao Nhi said that she wants to study abroad for a master's degree after graduating from university in Vietnam. In addition, the girl born in 2003 is also trying to arrange her time to learn a third foreign language, which is French.
