Ton Nu Trieu Man, a former student specializing in Physics at Quoc Hoc High School in Hue, has just graduated with a Bachelor of Applied Mathematics (Financial Engineering and Risk Management) from the International University (Ho Chi Minh City National University) in November 2024 with a very high score of 92.4/100 points. Recently, she continued to receive a scholarship to study for a PhD at the University of California, Santa Barbara, USA - a Top 50 university in the world for innovation.
It is worth mentioning that after graduating, Trieu Man decided to apply for a scholarship to study abroad. Within 2 weeks of submitting her application, 6 professors from 6 top universities agreed. Man is the fastest person to get a scholarship at the school, other cases usually take 6-12 months.

" With the urgency of completing the application, without the enthusiastic support of the teachers, I would have had difficulty completing it on time. The teachers not only wrote letters of recommendation but also helped me contact professors in the US. There were problems that I did not understand in the application, but the teachers did not mind their busy work and were willing to support me. Therefore, when I received the results of this scholarship, after my parents, the teachers were the first people I informed. Without the teachers, I certainly would not have succeeded. I am extremely grateful to the teachers," Man expressed.
It is known that Trieu Man is a former student majoring in Physics but chose to study Mathematics. However, she did not find it too difficult because these two subjects basically still focused on logic. More importantly, she studied the subject she liked, so when she went deeper, everything would be easy.
"In recent years, I have seen that the percentage of women studying Financial Mathematics has increased significantly. People often have prejudices that men should study Mathematics, just like men study natural sciences, women study social sciences, foreign languages, etc. But I affirm that gender does not really contribute to the choice of a career, especially Financial Mathematics. I think your personal perspective and logical thinking are important," Man said.
Best preparation for studying in the US
Sharing about enrolling in September, Man said that she is still trying to complete her work at a Vietnamese investment fund. After completing the handover, she will return to Hue to stay with her family for a few months before starting her new journey. She also sought out some friends and seniors who had studied the same program as her at the University of California, especially those who had studied with this scholarship, to make new connections. Find out in advance the necessary information such as the characteristics of the school, life in the US, the school's requirements for the two official exams to become a doctoral student... All of which require careful preparation.

" I think, when deciding to go such a long way, I hope that I can become more mature, more open-minded, make friends with many talented people in the new country... from there I can integrate better. After that, I hope to be able to focus my efforts on in-depth research, achieve the standards to graduate and receive a doctorate.
After graduating with a PhD, I will use the accumulated knowledge to contribute to science and then possibly contribute to my country," Man said.
Revealing whether he will return to Vietnam to work or not, Man expressed: "It depends on fate. I believe that contributing to science or to the country can be done anywhere as long as you have the will and desire to do so."

I have known Ton Nu Trieu Man since 2020, you received a full scholarship based on your excellent performance and always maintained admirable academic results. You graduated as the second in your program and received a Silver Medal with a GPA of 92.4 in 2024. At the same time, Trieu Man also completed the program with a minor in Financial Engineering and Risk Management. In addition, your academic performance ranked third among all graduates of Applied Mathematics in the past 11 years."
"From the very beginning, Man stood out in my classes thanks to his enthusiasm and diligence. Man often volunteered to present his work in class and support his classmates. Man quickly grasped complex ideas and demonstrated an impressive ability to effectively apply them to practical aspects of the courses.
