Ho Chi Minh City: Two 9th grade students at Hoang Hoa Tham Secondary School were smoking and beating up a friend in the school's restroom.
Over the past two days, a three-minute video has gone viral on social media, showing a female student being punched, kicked, and having her hair pulled by two other students in a bathroom. Another female student stood by filming the video but did not intervene.
Also in the video, two female students beat their friend who kept smoking. Before leaving the bathroom, they sprayed perfume on themselves.
On September 28, Mr. Ho Vinh Thinh, Vice Principal of Hoang Hoa Tham Secondary School, confirmed that the above video was recorded in the school's restroom. The incident occurred at the end of December last year.
According to the school's investigation, three female ninth graders had a conflict before. The group of two asked the other to go into the bathroom, close the door to talk, then attacked. The video went viral because a student lost her Facebook account. The intruder used the videos to blackmail. Because the student refused to pay, the video was posted on social media sites.
Mr. Thinh said he had invited the People's Committee and police of Ward 13, Tan Binh District, to work with students and parents to clarify the matter.
"The police are also verifying whether the children used e-cigarettes or marijuana," Mr. Thinh said.
Since the beginning of the new school year, student fights have occurred continuously in Nghe An, Gia Lai, Ha Tinh...
In the summary report of the 2022-2023 school year, the Ministry of Education and Training stated that school violence still occurs in many places, which is one of the problems of the sector. The Ministry estimated that nearly 7,100 students were involved in school violence last year. According to regulations, disciplinary action for students who violate the law currently includes three forms: warning, reprimand, and temporary suspension from school.
