(CLO) The year 2024 witnessed a series of tragic aviation accidents around the world, sparking discussions about aviation safety and crisis management.
One of the recent high-profile incidents was the Azerbaijan Airlines plane crash on Christmas Eve, when an Embraer 190 carrying 67 people from Baku to Grozny crashed near the city of Aktau, Kazakhstan.
The accident occurred when the plane was diverted due to bad weather and attempted an emergency landing at Aktau airport, but unfortunately encountered problems while landing. As a result, 42 people were killed, with only 25 survivors. This accident has raised many questions about aviation safety during the festive season.

January 2: Collision at Haneda Airport, Japan
A collision occurred on the runway at Tokyo's Haneda Airport between a Japan Airlines Airbus A350 and a Japan Coast Guard aircraft. Although all 379 passengers on the commercial flight were safely evacuated, five crew members on the Japan Coast Guard aircraft were killed in the accident.
January 24: Russian Ilyushin Il-76M plane crashes
A Russian Ilyushin Il-76M transport plane crashed in the Belgorod region, killing 74 people, including 65 Ukrainian prisoners of war. Moscow said the plane was shot down by a Ukrainian missile, making the crash the deadliest aviation tragedy of 2024.
July 24: Saurya Airlines CRJ200 crash
A Bombardier CRJ200 operated by Saurya Airlines crashed while taking off from Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, Nepal. Of the 19 people on board, 18 were killed, with only the pilot surviving. An initial investigation has highlighted concerns about maintenance issues at the airline.
August 9: Voepass Airlines ATR-72 crash
A Voepass Airlines ATR-72 crashed near the Vinhedo neighborhood of São Paulo, Brazil. Despite the pilot’s efforts to control the situation, severe icing caused the plane to lose control. The crash claimed the lives of 62 people, including 58 passengers and 4 crew members. Bad weather conditions and pilot error were believed to be the causes of the incident.
