Through mediation work in Bao Thang district, it has contributed to strengthening village and neighborhood relationships, maintaining political security, social order and safety, and proactively preventing and limiting violations of the law.

Son Ha commune currently has 10 mediation teams, with 47 mediators. In 2023, due to personnel changes at the grassroots level, the People's Committee of the commune issued decisions to consolidate and improve 4 mediation teams in Tra Chau, An Tra, Ta Ha 1, and Lang Chung villages.

According to local assessments, the activities of mediation teams and mediators at the grassroots level are maintained regularly, consistently, synchronously and effectively, contributing to preventing violations of the law and resolving conflicts and disputes in the community.

In recent years, land has become a “hot” issue in Son Ha, so most of the conciliation cases are related to this field. In 2023 alone, the conciliation teams received 7 cases, of which 5 were related to the land field and 2 were in the civil field.

In recent times, the local mediation teams have actively participated in local mediation work. This is demonstrated by the fact that 7/7 mediation cases were successfully resolved. The flexibility, ingenuity, initiative and positivity of the mediation teams have contributed significantly to ensuring security and order in the area, bringing Son Ha commune to the "finish line" of advanced new rural areas.

Ms. Do Huong Giang, Vice Chairman of Son Ha Commune People's Committee

In Son Hai commune, the mediation teams are increasingly asserting their position and role in life. For example, in Soi Chat village, a few days before the Lunar New Year 2024, when families are busy preparing to celebrate a warm and reunited New Year, members of the village mediation team spend time mending the relationship between two neighboring households.

Previously, the wastewater pipe of Ms. Ngo Kim My's family was broken, affecting the surrounding living environment, including Ms. Nong Thi Hoan's family. After the mediation team came to explain, propagate, and mobilize, the households stopped arguing and came to an agreement that Ms. Ngo Kim My's family had to repair the wastewater pipe. On the afternoon of the 28th of Tet, members of the mediation team came to check and saw that Ms. My's family had repaired and reinstalled the pipe as promised; the families were all happy and forgave each other for the controversial incident that had been going on for a long time...

The team of mediators has been strengthened and improved to ensure quantity and quality; they are regularly trained and fostered in mediation at the grassroots level and supplemented with legal knowledge to improve their mediation capacity and skills.

Mr. Hoang Van Hong, Village Head, member of the Soi Chat Village Mediation Team, Son Hai Commune, has participated in mediation work for decades. He is also an individual who received a Certificate of Merit from the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee for his outstanding achievements in the preliminary summary of phase 1 of the Project "Improving the capacity of grassroots mediators, phase 2019 - 2022" in the province.

Sometimes, in anger, people say bad things to members of the mediation team. However, thanks to the experience accumulated after many years of participating in social work, along with training, members will be flexible and skillful in resolving cases in the direction of "making big things small", preserving the village and neighborly relationship.

Mr. Hoang Van Hong, member of the Soi Chat village mediation team

Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh, Head of the Soi Chat Village Mediation Team, said that if one is not enthusiastic and responsible for the common work, it will be difficult to fulfill the role of a mediator.

Ms. Minh gave an example of a dispute involving two households over production land a few years ago. In the middle of a hot summer afternoon, the mediation team received information that two households were having an argument in the production hill area. Leaving their lunch behind, Ms. Minh and a member of the mediation team, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Tung, rushed to the disputed area. When they arrived, the two households were arguing, each holding “hot” objects.

Ignoring her fatigue and fear, Ms. Minh approached and listened to both sides' stories. To be objective, she informed the local authorities to send cadastral officers to work. After clearly defining the boundaries of production land and trees on the production land of the households, the two sides came to an agreement that the household that cut down trees on the production land of the other household would have to compensate for the damage...

This is an important basis for localities in particular and Bao Thang district in general to successfully carry out assigned political tasks.
