The restaurant in District 1 - the sole representative of Vietnam - was honored for the fourth consecutive time at the Asia's 50 Best Restaurants 2024 award.

At the Asia's 50 Best Restaurants 2024 awards ceremony in Seoul, South Korea on March 26, Anan Saigon was the only Vietnamese restaurant honored, at 48th place. This is also the first restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City to receive a Michelin star in 2023.

The restaurant's menu is developed from popular Vietnamese dishes from all three regions, with new ways of preparation and decoration. Responding to VnExpress on March 27, chef Peter Cuong Franklin, the restaurant's owner, said this is the fourth consecutive time Anan Saigon has been named in the list of Asia's 50 best restaurants.

Peter says the dishes at his restaurant are often known as "fusion cuisine," but he prefers to call them new Vietnamese cooking or new cuisine.

Some of the restaurant's highlights include Ca Mau crab combined with many unique ingredients such as sea urchin (Bafun uni), red grapefruit, fried onions and shrimp head sauce, pho cocktail, mini La Vong fish cakes or taco pancakes.

Peter said that the dishes do not lose their original flavor because the ingredients are local. To create a new dish, Peter often goes to the place where the original dish is eaten and learns about the local culture so that the dish still retains its traditional elements.

"I just created a new style of Vietnamese cuisine that can integrate with the world. From popular dishes to high-class, new dishes, bringing interesting experiences to diners," Peter shared.

This year’s winner is Sézanne in Tokyo, Japan. The restaurant specializes in French cuisine with an Asian flair. The top 50 also includes eight restaurants in Japan, 14 in China, Singapore (9), Thailand (8), Korea (4), India (3), the Philippines (1) and Indonesia (1). Most of the restaurants on the list are high-end.

The World's 50 Best Restaurants is an annual award initiated by the British media company William Reed in 2002, which is considered prestigious in the tourism industry, with the participation of more than 300 critics, chefs, restaurant owners, and culinary experts around the world. Asia's 50 Best Restaurants is a category of the award. Some of the voting criteria include the dining experience at the restaurant, dishes that satisfy the tastes of ordinary to high-end customers, highlighting the sophistication and complexity of culinary cultures and trends.
