The ceremony to celebrate and reward the Vietnamese athletics team participating in the 32nd SEA Games took place this morning (May 17) in Hanoi. Sponsors, partners and the Vietnam Young Talent Fund awarded the team 950 million VND, not including gifts in kind.
“Although the Vietnamese athletics team achieved excellent results at the 32nd SEA Games, we must frankly admit that the team could have done better than what they have achieved. Many silver medals could have been converted into gold medals if they had accelerated and had better tactics,” said Mr. Hoang Ve Dung, President of the Athletics Federation, in his assessment of the athletics team’s performance at the 32nd SEA Games.
Vietnam athletics team received nearly 1 billion VND in additional bonus.
The track and field team completed the 32nd SEA Games with 12 gold medals, 20 silver medals and 8 bronze medals. This number did not meet the set target. Vietnamese athletes could not defend their gold medals in some events. However, this was also the Games where the Vietnamese track and field team did not have the strongest force. Some new athletes introduced at this SEA Games, although they did not win gold medals, still have promising results in the next ones.
Nguyen Thi Oanh's achievement of 4 gold medals contributed to the reputation of Vietnamese athletics at the 32nd SEA Games. Athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh was commended and awarded commensurate with her efforts and achievements in Cambodia. At the award ceremony, athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh received a symbolic car key from a private enterprise.
Nguyen Thi Oanh is a typical figure of Vietnamese athletics at SEA Games 32.
Overall assessment of the 12 gold medals, Mr. Hoang Ve Dung highly appreciated this achievement but believed that the team could have increased the number of gold medals if the strategy was reasonable. He said that the athletics federation, the department and the team will continue to analyze and learn from the actual competition at the 32nd SEA Games.
Mr. Hoang Ve Dung shared: “We will sit down to dissect and analyze the abilities of each athlete. We will boldly rejuvenate the force, invest in potential athletes to achieve higher results in the next SEA Games and aim for higher arenas such as ASIAD and Olympics”.
