The record heat wave in Da Nang began yesterday (April 26) with the highest daily temperature commonly ranging from 38 - 40°C. At Da Nang station, the temperature was measured at 40.7°C, 0.2°C higher than the historical temperature. |
The hot weather makes most people afraid to go out after about 11:30. Busy streets such as Hung Vuong, Le Duan, Nguyen Van Linh, Ngo Quyen... are also less crowded than usual. "With such hot weather, I have to go out at noon only when I have no other choice. I wear 2 layers of masks, sun-protective clothing, and a sun-protective skirt, but I still feel hot. The worst thing is having to wait more than 1 minute under the sun at a red light intersection," Ms. Hoang Thi Thu (Son Tra district) complained. |
A sanitation worker covered up while cleaning up trash on Tran Cao Van Street (Thanh Khe District, Da Nang) in the midday sun. |
Scrap collectors also take advantage of the shade of trees along the road to sort and classify scrap before selling it to warehouses. |
Under the scorching sun, Mrs. Bui Thi Phuoc Thao (60 years old, Thanh Khe Tay ward, Thanh Khe district) still diligently pushes her cart to collect scrap along Hai Phong road. Every day, she usually starts work from around 8am to 4pm. For the past 2 days, the scorching sun has made her work more difficult. |
"It's too sunny so I put an umbrella on the stroller to keep cool, it's better than being exposed to the sun all the time. I also bring about 2 liters of water to prevent heatstroke or dehydration. When the sun is hot, I often stop at schools or sidewalks with shade to rest," said Ms. Thao. |
A resident on Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Street (Hai Chau District) uses a hose to spray water on the sidewalk in front of his house to cool off. |
For freelance workers, the area at the foot of the Han River Bridge, Dragon Bridge, Tran Thi Ly Bridge, and the sidewalks of tree-lined streets such as Tran Phu, Bach Dang, Thai Phien, Nguyen Chi Thanh, Le Loi... are ideal places to take a nap to avoid the heat. |
The cafes at the foot of Tran Thi Ly bridge (Son Tra district) are chosen by many workers and laborers to take a nap at noon, avoiding the hottest time of the day. |
The temperature measured at Dragon Bridge at around 12:20 was 37°C but "actually felt like 45°C". Experts warn that this hot weather can cause dehydration, exhaustion, and heat stroke in the human body when exposed to high temperatures for a long time. |
After finishing their tour at Han Market, a group of Chinese tourists covered themselves with sunscreen and prepared umbrellas to avoid the heat as they moved to another location. |
Tour guides are also fully equipped with sun protection gear when leading tours to tourist attractions around the central area of Da Nang. According to forecasts, in the next 24 to 48 hours, Da Nang City will continue to experience intense heat, with some areas experiencing particularly intense heat with the highest temperature reaching 37 - 40°C, some areas over 40°C; the heat may last until the end of the holiday. |
