Argentine Foreign Minister Diana Mondino will pay an official visit to Brazil starting April 15. According to the announcement of the Argentine Foreign Ministry, the meeting between Diana Mondino and her counterpart Mauro Vieira will address “issues of strategic interest” for both countries, including border infrastructure, energy and defense cooperation, the Paraguay-Paraná waterway, strengthening the South American Common Market (Mercosur) and regional integration processes.

Diana Mondino's visit to Brazil comes a month after the fifth meeting of the Brazil-Argentina political coordination mechanism, co-chaired by the two countries' Deputy Foreign Ministers in Buenos Aires. According to the Argentine Foreign Ministry, the meeting "examined more broadly" the "agenda of cooperation and integration within the framework of the bilateral strategic alliance."

Diana Mondino's trip to Brasilia is the first visit to Brazil by a representative of the government of far-right President Javier Milei since he took office on December 10 last year. During the presidential campaign, Javier Milei announced that he would cut ties with Brazil because President Lula da Silva was a "communist".

After Mr. Javier Milei was elected President of Argentina, Ms. Diana Mondino personally went to Brazil to invite Mr. Lula to attend the inauguration ceremony, but the Brazilian leader only sent Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira to attend.
