According to the Ministry of Health's COVID-19 prevention bulletin, on May 17, Vietnam recorded 2,043 new cases, a slight increase from the previous day; 853 cases recovered, and 75 patients are currently on oxygen.

The Ministry of Health's COVID-19 prevention bulletin on May 17 said there were 2,043 new cases, a slight increase compared to the previous day.

COVID-19 situation in Vietnam

Since the beginning of the epidemic, Vietnam has had 11,596,662 infections, ranking 13th out of 231 countries and territories, while with the rate of infections per 1 million people, Vietnam ranks 120th out of 231 countries and territories (on average, there are 117,193 infections per 1 million people).

COVID-19 treatment situation

Number of patients recovered: 853 patients were announced to be cured today, bringing the total number of cured cases to 10,633,704.

The number of patients on oxygen is 75 cases, including: Oxygen breathing via mask (65 cases); High flow oxygen breathing HFNC (6 cases); Non-invasive ventilation (1 case); Invasive ventilation (3 cases); ECMO (0 cases).

Number of deaths: 0 deaths recorded today. Average number of deaths recorded in the past 7 days: 0 cases.

The total number of deaths from COVID-19 in Vietnam to date is 43,201, accounting for 0.4% of the total number of infections.

Total deaths ranked 26th out of 231 territories, deaths per 1 million people ranked 141st out of 231 countries and territories in the world. Compared to Asia, total deaths ranked 7th out of 50 (ranked 3rd in ASEAN), deaths per 1 million people ranked 29th out of 50 countries and territories in Asia (ranked 5th in ASEAN).

COVID-19 vaccination status

On May 16, 875 doses of COVID-19 vaccine were administered. Thus, the total number of doses administered was 266,341,032, of which:

The number of doses for people aged 18 and over is 223,694,570 doses: 70,908,855 doses for the first dose; 68,453,263 doses for the second dose; 14,343,935 doses for the supplementary dose; 52,123,045 doses for the first booster dose; 17,865,472 doses for the second booster dose.

The number of doses for children aged 12-17 is 23,965,543 doses: 1st dose is 9,130,889 doses; 2nd dose is 9,021,366 doses; 1st booster dose is 5,813,288 doses.

The number of doses for children aged 5-11 is 18,680,919 doses: 10,221,541 doses for the first dose; 8,459,378 doses for the second dose.
