(To Quoc) - The General University was formerly the headquarters of the Indochina University. Although familiar to the people of the capital, this is the most mysterious school because there are areas that have never appeared before, now for the first time open to the public and visitors.
Within the framework of the Hanoi Creative Design Festival 2024, the University building - the "Sanctuary of Knowledge" of the Capital, is attracting public attention.
The University, formerly known as the Indochina University, was established on May 16, 1906. This is one of the first modern universities in Indochina in general and in Vietnam in particular, which has trained many new generations of intellectuals who have contributed significantly to the cause of national liberation and nation building.
After a century, this ancient building still retains its old Indochinese architecture, and is a part of the history of the capital Hanoi.
As part of the Hanoi Creative Design Festival 2024, the Hanoi University building opened its doors to the public for the first time, welcoming visitors to areas that had previously been closed for preservation.
Since its opening, the University has welcomed thousands of visitors, especially the "secret" area from the 2nd floor to the attic and dome.
The Indochinese dome architecture area is the first time the public has had the opportunity to admire it up close. The dome architecture has typical ancient Indochinese architectural details.
The University Building is one of the key locations in the 2024 Creative Design Festival and is considered by many to be the most beautiful and interesting location.
Painter Nguyen The Son (Visual Arts Lecturer at the School of Interdisciplinary Sciences and Arts, Vietnam National University, Hanoi) shared: "This building looks like a French neoclassical building at first glance, but if you look closely, the motifs and decorative details are all from traditional Vietnamese fine arts. From the lotus pedestal, lotus vine, swastika, eight treasures... all are stories closely associated with traditional Vietnamese fine arts. It can be said that this is something worth learning about, Indochina fine arts are interwoven with the story of European culture and science".
The dome structure seen from the attic remains very durable over time.
At the Creative Design Festival, this is the venue for an interactive art exhibition complex called “Indochina Sensation,” featuring 22 installations and light shows.
Young people enjoy recording beautiful images of the University.
Despite nearly 100 years, the ceiling of the building still has the image of two phoenixes, a symbol of authority in East Asian culture. This is also a detail that represents traditional Vietnamese art, along with other motifs such as lotus pedestals, lotus vines, swastikas, etc.
These images have never been seen before in public, but are now available to visitors.
Over time, the building's architecture still retains its aesthetic, artistic, historical values... and is a source of pride for the people of the capital.
As one of the most attractive places, the number of visitors is also very large. Therefore, the Organizing Committee must divide the turns so that all the public and tourists can visit. Accordingly, from the 2nd floor and above, each turn is only allowed 20 people to visit, each turn has about 10 minutes to enjoy the entire museum space on the 2nd floor, the dome architecture of the 3rd floor attic...
Within the framework of the Hanoi Creative Design Festival 2024, the “University” building complex is the venue for many activities, seminars, talks, and exhibitions. In particular, the interactive art exhibition complex “Indochina Senses” is considered a grand exhibition with 22 works, displaying a cluster of unique interactive art works, evoking old feelings about Indochinese architecture and fine arts.
The painting “The Flared Dress” by famous artist Victor Tardieu stands out at the Nguỵ Như Kon Tum lecture hall. The painting covers an area of 77 square meters and depicts the social scene of Vietnam in the early 20th century with 200 characters appearing in the painting.
The University will be open to the public and visitors from November 9-17.
