In more detail, General Konashenkov said Ukraine had launched a counterattack north of Bakhmut with more than 1,000 soldiers and 40 tanks, a scale that if confirmed would be Ukraine's largest counterattack since November 2022.

"Ukrainian military units carried out 26 attacks involving more than 1,000 soldiers, up to 40 tanks and other military and special equipment. All attacks by the Ukrainian army were repelled," Konashenkov said.
General Konashenkov also reported on the fighting situation in the Kharkiv and Luhansk regions: "In the direction of Kupyansk, aircraft and artillery from the Western battle group attacked enemy units in areas near the settlements of Dvurechnoye in Kharkiv and Novosyolovskoye in Luhansk. In addition, the activities of a reconnaissance group were prevented near the settlement of Kotlyarovka in Kharkov at night."
In the report, Mr. Konashenkov said that Russian forces had killed and wounded about 900 Ukrainian soldiers in the Donetsk region over the past day. "In total, the enemy's losses in the Donetsk region amounted to about 900 Ukrainian soldiers killed and wounded, more than 30 armored vehicles, 7 vehicles, 2 D-30 guns and 1 British-made L118 howitzer," he said.
Meanwhile, Serhiy Cherevatyi, spokesman for Ukraine's "Eastern" group of forces, said: "During three days of counter-offensive operations, the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Bakhmut area liberated 17.3 square kilometers of territory." However, General Konashenkov said this was only a tactical retreat of Russian forces in Bakhmut.
Russia added that two Ukrainian missiles struck an industrial complex in Luhansk, about 100 kilometers (62 miles) behind the front line in Russian-controlled territory. Video posted online showed huge plumes of smoke above the city.
The 15-month war in Ukraine is reaching a turning point, with Ukrainian forces launching a counter-offensive after six months on the defensive and after receiving hundreds of new Western tanks and armored vehicles.
