Earlier, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said he was "ready and willing" to deploy troops to Ukraine with US support, as a post-conflict security guarantee.
According to the Telegraph , Prime Minister Starmer is planning to present to US President Donald Trump a proposal to deploy less than 30,000 European troops to Ukraine, in exchange for Washington protecting this force.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stressed that this proposal is "unacceptable" because it involves the forces of a NATO member state, thus potentially affecting Russia's security.
Moscow expressed concern about Prime Minister Keir Starmer's statements and said it was monitoring the issue.
Russia has repeatedly voiced its opposition to the presence of NATO troops on Ukrainian territory.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said this week that Moscow would view the idea of troops from NATO member states on Ukrainian territory as a “direct threat” to the country’s sovereignty, even if they operated under a different flag.
During talks with the US in Riyadh on January 18, Russia asked NATO to cancel its 2008 commitment to the possibility of admitting Ukraine into the alliance.
Moscow also opposes the idea of deploying peacekeeping forces from NATO member states in a ceasefire agreement.
On the same day, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said he had discussed with US Special Envoy for Russia and Ukraine, Mr. Keith Kellogg, measures to achieve peace in a just and sustainable manner.
Mr. Kellogg's visit to Kiev comes as Ukraine faces a number of diplomatic challenges, after US President Donald Trump essentially ended Russia's political isolation and launched bilateral talks with Moscow.
On the social network X , Foreign Minister Sybiha wrote: "I affirm Kiev's commitment to achieving peace through strength as well as our vision of the necessary steps", and believed that the security of Ukraine and the transatlantic region are inseparable.
