Improve the quality of agricultural products for export

European Union countries are increasing the frequency of quality control of many products such as dragon fruit, chili, okra, and durian from Vietnam.

Markets increase frequency of agricultural product control

Notable information for businesses and farmers is that currently, major markets for Vietnamese agricultural products are increasing the frequency of control to tighten the quality of imported goods. Specifically, countries in the European Union are increasing the frequency of quality control of many items such as dragon fruit, chili, okra, and durian from Vietnam.

The reason is that the number of shipments that have been warned by our country has increased by more than 80% compared to the same period last year. Ensuring standards such as product traceability and food safety criteria have not been strictly implemented in many shipments. In particular, standards on green production, environmental friendliness, and emission reduction have also been tightened by importing countries. The suspension and cancellation of orders can happen at any time if our country's agricultural products continue to violate and are warned.

Improve the quality of agricultural products for export

Once warned or temporarily suspended from import, it will greatly affect the reputation and brand of Vietnamese agricultural products. Faced with technical barriers, farmers and businesses are actively coordinating to produce in a safe and quality direction to meet increasingly strict standards set by the market.

Mr. Loi's more than 10 hectares of grapefruit are produced according to good agricultural practices. In addition to prioritizing the use of biological products, he also strengthens connections and follows the requirements of exporters.

Mr. Nguyen Van Loi - Farmer of An Giang province shared: "Eating grapefruit must be sweet, when people eat our grapefruit, they must remember. Grapefruit must be famous, our growing area must be qualified".

Mr. Dang Thanh Phong - Deputy Head of the Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection of An Giang said: "We must be trained on technical requirements for growing area codes. Requirements on product quality and safety, food safety... However, after meeting the conditions for granting growing area codes, we are also responsible for maintaining this code after it is granted."

To encourage farmers to produce cleanly, with records, and meet export standards, cooperatives and businesses currently have higher purchase prices than outside the model.

This is a grapefruit product that meets export standards to Europe. Thanks to production following good agricultural practices, especially with a growing area code, the grapefruit product here has a selling price 3-4 times higher than normal grapefruit products.

Mr. Nguyen Tien Diep - Director of Uyen Diep Vietnam Durian Cooperative confided: "Compared to the normal price, if people cooperate with us, we will add or subtract a price higher than the outside price of 2,000 - 3,000 VND/kg, even 5,000 - 10,000 VND/kg if the people commit to implementing the product well according to our regulations".

Currently, the country has about 1.3 million hectares of fruit trees, producing more than 13 million tons of fruit each year. Building safe and quality raw material areas is an important solution to help our country's agricultural products easily conquer demanding markets.

Increasing the value of agricultural products from deep processing

The changing consumption trend, from eating well to eating clean and delicious food, requires Vietnamese agricultural products to be more diverse. In addition to having clean and quality raw materials, it is also necessary to promote deep processing to create many convenient products instead of just exporting fresh and raw goods.

This is a batch of dried jackfruit prepared for export to Southeast Asian countries. Since investing in technology to process fresh jackfruit into refined products, this factory has received many export orders.

Mr. Nguyen Pham Quoc Tung - Deputy Director of Nam Huy Dong Thap Company said: "There are orders from the US, orders from Thailand, Malaysia. Expected orders from now until the end of the year are about 3 containers/month.

Only 200 grams of dried jackfruit costs more than 55,000 VND, which is about 10 times higher than fresh jackfruit. What is special is that thanks to deep processing, jackfruit products have also conquered demanding markets.

Vietnam is a tropical country with seasonal production. Deep processing not only increases product value and attracts consumers, but also proactively solves the problem of raw materials for farmers.

Mr. Bui Anh Tuan - Deputy General Director of An Giang Vegetable and Foodstuff Joint Stock Company shared: "Deep processing technology helps farmers handle large output during the crop season. If we consume fresh products, we may not be able to consume them all."

Mr. Tran Thanh Hiep - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of An Giang province commented: "Recently, we have had two shipments exported to Korea. In the near future, we will continue to expand further and invite businesses to participate in connecting and linking production. In which, we pay more attention to the issue of deep processing".

For fruits and vegetables alone, our country produces about 31 million tons each year, but less than 20% of the products are deeply processed. If we do a better job in processing and produce more safe, high-quality, and convenient products, the export turnover of this industry will soon exceed the 5.6 billion USD mark.
