On the evening of September 1 (Hanoi time), US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken, on behalf of the US government, sent congratulations to the Government and people of Vietnam on the occasion of the 78th National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2023). A VNA correspondent in Washington quoted a statement from the US State Department as saying that Secretary Blinken affirmed that the US supports a strong, prosperous, independent and self-reliant Vietnam. The United States values the partnership that our governments and peoples have built together, and looks forward to working together on priority areas to advance our shared goal of a prosperous, open, resilient, and peaceful Indo-Pacific region. The top US diplomat also expressed his anticipation for President Joe Biden’s historic visit to Hanoi on September 10 to celebrate all that our two countries have achieved together and plan for our shared future.
