LCĐT - Although it is a particularly difficult mountainous district with little production land, Muong Khuong is considered a typical locality in agricultural development.

In recent years, Lung Vai commune has made many breakthroughs in transforming crop structure, forming concentrated commodity production areas such as pineapple, tea, banana, etc. with the largest areas in the province. To achieve this result, the Party Committee of the commune has identified the advantages of natural conditions, soil and production practices of the people, thereby issuing leadership resolutions, building projects and plans focusing on agricultural development.

Coming to Lung Vai in the first days of the year, we saw the bustling atmosphere of work and production in every village and hamlet. On the tea hills, the laughter of people harvesting spring tea was bustling. Talking to us, Mr. Giang Seo Chu in Coc Lay hamlet said: 5 years ago, when receiving support for seedlings and fertilizers, my family converted more than 2 hectares of ineffective upland rice and corn land to grow tea. Thanks to following the correct technical process from planting to care, the tea area has now been harvested, helping the family have a stable monthly income of more than 10 million VND after deducting expenses.

Mr. Nguyen Tien Luong, Chairman of Lung Vai Commune People's Committee, said: In the coming time, the Commune Party Committee determined to lead the people to focus on agricultural production with key crops and livestock according to Resolution 10 dated August 26, 2021 of the Provincial Party Standing Committee. In particular, tea is identified as the key crop, because after more than 40 years of attachment, it has shown that tea is a crop that provides sustainable income in the economic development of many households in the commune. Currently, the commune has more than 940 hectares of tea, of which about 800 hectares are being harvested, with an average output of nearly 1,000 tons of fresh buds/month, and a revenue of nearly 5 billion VND.

Along with tea trees, Lung Vai maintains a banana tissue culture area of about 300 hectares, a pineapple area of 200 hectares and a Seng Cu rice area of 27 hectares. With the right direction and appropriate methods, the production value per hectare of agricultural land in Lung Vai reaches more than 80 million VND.

Saying goodbye to Lung Vai, arriving at the border commune of Nam Chay, we witnessed many agricultural production models on sloping land such as tangerine, pineapple, and banana farms... According to Mr. Cu Tho, Chairman of the People's Committee of Nam Chay commune, right from the beginning of the 2020 - 2025 term, the Party Committee of the commune has identified the need for innovation in thinking in agricultural development in the locality. In particular, focusing on implementing synchronous solutions, actively mobilizing people to restructure agriculture, converting areas of corn, upland rice, and ineffective mixed gardens to growing fruit trees such as bananas, tangerines, oranges and tea trees. Currently, Nam Chay commune has formed a concentrated production area in the direction of goods with more than 350 hectares of bananas; 53.6 hectares of tangerines and nearly 300 hectares of commercial tea.

According to Mr. Le Thanh Hoa, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Muong Khuong district: "To successfully implement Resolution 10 of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, it is necessary to first propagate and mobilize people to change their mindset from agricultural production to agricultural economic development, and at the same time, it is necessary to identify key industries suitable for land, soil, and production conditions for investment and development associated with attracting businesses and cooperatives to cooperate in production and consumption of products according to the value chain".

Muong Khuong is identifying tea, bananas, and pineapples as key crops, which will continue to be developed and expanded. The total tea area in the district is currently 4,941 hectares (output of 26,234 tons, estimated value of 190 billion VND); 1,570 hectares of bananas (output of 25,434 tons, estimated value of 85 billion VND); 1,500 hectares (output of 27,324 tons, estimated value of 136 billion VND).

As for tea trees, in 2022, 886 hectares will be newly planted, in 2023, 700 hectares are expected to be planted; continue to plant new trees until 2025, increasing the total tea area of the district to more than 6,000 hectares and by 2030 to more than 7,200 hectares. The district currently has 7 processing factories with a processing capacity of about 38,000 tons of fresh tea buds/year. The entire output of fresh tea buds produced is consumed smoothly and stably.

Talking about the agricultural development orientation of Muong Khuong district, Mr. To Viet Thanh, Vice Chairman of the District People's Committee affirmed: The Party Congress of Muong Khuong district for the 2020 - 2025 term determined that "Developing agriculture towards safe commodity production, improving product quality and value associated with rapid and sustainable poverty reduction, especially in communes with high poverty rates" is one of the breakthroughs of the entire term. Accordingly, Muong Khuong district continues to promote the strengths of specialty crop areas; strengthen planning and restructuring of commodity production areas; actively apply science and technology to production. Along with expanding production, maintaining and improving the quality of goods, the district will focus on building commodity brands, associated with the processing industry...

The direction of agricultural development is clear, the initial implementation has achieved positive results. In the future, Muong Khuong brand agricultural products will be present in domestic and international markets, bringing confidence and motivation to local ethnic people.
