Singer Dam Vinh Hung and the outfit that was punished
On the afternoon of July 16, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee issued a decision to administratively fine singer Dam Vinh Hung for wearing a "strange badge" during a live concert last May.
Accordingly, singer Dam Vinh Hung (real name Huynh Minh Hung) was suspended from performing for 9 months and fined 27.5 million VND. "Performing art using costumes, words, sounds, images, movements, means of expression, performance forms and behaviors that are contrary to the nation's traditions and customs; negatively impacting morality, public health and social psychology" - the penalty decision clearly stated.
The time limit for implementing the additional penalty applies from the date of receipt of this decision. "Mr. Huynh Minh Hung must strictly comply with this penalty decision. If after the deadline Mr. Huynh Minh Hung does not voluntarily comply, he will be forced to comply" - the decision clearly states.
Previously, after understanding the information, the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City invited related organizations and individuals including Tieng Hat Viet Company Limited, singer Dam Vinh Hung and the designer to discuss and record the feedback. The Department also reminded and requested Tieng Hat Viet Company and individuals participating in performing and creating art to further enhance their sense of responsibility and political awareness; pay attention to the issue of costumes and presentation form, avoid causing offense and having negative impacts on public opinion and society in the coming time.
Faced with strong public reaction, singer Dam Vinh Hung has apologized twice and promised to learn from the incident.
