Beijing-based consumer electronics company Xiaomi has unveiled a new generation of smart factories powered by artificial intelligence (AI) to improve efficiency and accuracy.
The factory operates in complete darkness, except for a few sparks from welding components, because there are no humans here.
From raw material processing to final assembly at the factory, AI and big data are integrated. Modern technology is also involved in monitoring and self-adjusting to achieve optimal performance, reduce errors and ensure stable quality.

The company is understood to have invested 2.4 billion yuan ($330 million) in the 81,000-square-meter facility and 10 million pieces of equipment.
The AI race is accelerating as major corporations seek to leverage the technology to gain a competitive edge, a trend that analysts have warned could see many human jobs replaced by robots in the coming years.
