After more than 2 months of assembling a fixed rice-grinding machine on a small ferry, Mr. Tran Van Sang, residing in Kinh Hoi hamlet, Khanh Binh commune, Tran Van Thoi district, Ca Mau province, weaves his way through rivers, canals, and ditches to reach people's homes to grind rice, helping him earn around 300,000 VND/day.

Video, Mr. Tran Van Sang, residing in Kinh Hoi hamlet, Khanh Binh commune, Tran Van Thoi district, Ca Mau province, created a "mobile" rice milling machine, fixed on a ferry, then crept along rivers, went to people's houses to mill rice, bringing in an income of about 300 thousand VND/day.

Waking up before dawn, Mr. Sang has already started preparing everything for his daily rice-grinding trip on the river. The small ferry carrying his "mobile" rice-grinding machine diligently goes to each house, weaving through small canals to serve people who need rice-grinding.

Mr. Sang said that before, he and his wife worked in the lake, setting nets on the river, but life was unstable so he wanted to change to another stable job. With that determination, he and his wife invested in assembling a "mobile" river scrubber at a cost of 120 million VND.

"With a small, compact design, the machine is fixed under the ferry to easily move through the countryside and canals, and only mills rice for households," said Mr. Sang, adding that when he first started working, he installed a speaker on the ferry to signal to people that the mill was coming. Gradually, when he became familiar with the customers, he gave out his phone number, and whoever needed it could call and the mill would come to their location.

Because they work on the river, they eat and rest on the ferry, and the "mobile" scrubber is now like a second home for Sang's family. Although the work is somewhat hard, it helps his family to have less hardship than before.

Mr. Tran Van Sang, residing in Kinh Hoi Hamlet, Khanh Binh Commune, Tran Van Thoi District, said that each bag of rice after being put into the machine takes about 20 minutes to become rice, but the price is only 25,000 VND/bag of rice. He said that he is also a farmer, so he sets the price to serve "farmers" to reduce the hardship of having to bring rice to the gathering points which are both far and difficult to mill the rice. "Although the income is not high, the source of income is stable. Sometimes, we travel between communes from Khanh Binh commune to Khanh Binh Dong commune, Tran Van Thoi district. Each trip like that, after deducting all expenses, brings in an income of 300-400 thousand VND/day. Especially near Tet, when people grind more rice, the income is higher," Mr. Sang added.

Ms. Le Thi Quyen, resident of Khanh Binh commune - a household using Mr. Sang's service, said that the time to grind rice is very fast, about 15-20 minutes to finish a bag of rice.

People in rural areas of Tran Van Thoi district said that when using Mr. Sang's rice milling service, if anyone takes rice and bran, the fee for each bag of rice is 25,000 VND, but if after the milling, the rice owner only takes the rice and gives him bran, it only costs 10,000 VND/bag of rice, it is very convenient. "If someone takes rice and bran, the salary for each bag of rice is 25,000 VND. If after finishing the milling, the rice owner only takes the rice and gives the bran to the ferry owner, it only costs 10,000 VND/bag," said Ms. Quyen.

Similarly, Ms. Lam Thi Nhi, Chong My hamlet, Khanh Binh commune said that since having this "mobile" threshing machine, farmers do not have to transport rice far away, which is convenient for the people here, while the price is reasonable, so the people are very happy to have Mr. Sang's service.

Mr. Sang's "mobile" rice milling machine is considered "unique", solving the rice milling needs of many people in rural areas. It also has the characteristics of a type of trade that can only be found in the West in general, and Tran Van Thoi district in particular, every time the rice milling season comes.
