Chinese authorities have recently stepped up efforts to support companies developing AI as the technology becomes more prominent.
According to a post on its WeChat account, Alibaba's Cloud Intelligence Division said that corporations such as OPPO, Taobao, DingTalk, and Zhejiang University have reached agreements to cooperate in training their own large language models or developing language model applications based on Unified Tianwen.
The post also says that in the near future, an open source version of this massive language model will also be available for free for commercial use “by the entire society.”
Earlier this week, Alibaba Cloud Chief Executive Officer Daniel Zhang stepped down. He was succeeded by Alibaba Group's new CEO Eddie Wu.
In an internal letter to Alibaba employees on Tuesday, Mr. Wu said AI will be at the heart of Alibaba Group's future strategy.
“In the next decade, the biggest change agent will be the disruption that AI brings to every industry. If we don’t keep up with the changes of the AI era, we will be replaced.”
Alibaba unveiled Unified Heavenly Question in April. At the time, the company said the large language model was similar to ChatGPT and would be integrated into all of its enterprise applications.
